Penelope 2017 (Patreon)

This is a first (awake) look at where I am going with Penelope.  I know from feedback that she is/was a popular character and that she has been ignored in favour of various Amandas, their friends and enemies, and more recently Gwen.  I have taken a long hard look at why, I ignored her and worked it out.

Firstly, after Penelope's Mission and Working Late (incomplete), I had no real direction in which I could take the character.  Curia wrote some excellent follow up stories, but after that I didn't really have any new ideas of my own.  So, I now have some good news on that front. MarkusJo has started work on an epic Penelope CYOA, that could well run to 40,000 words.

Secondly, Penelope's appearance really wasn't doing it for me.  Firstly her face looked harsh enough to be a baddie, leaving me not feeling sympathetic to her.  I want her to be strong but not evil looking.  Also, I realised how much I HATED her hair and boots.  Both were models I picked years ago when newer stuff wasn't available.  Pen's hair was a horrible bun thing, when I think a pony tail is way more practical, natural and cool. Sure, those bangs were kind of nice but they were the same in every picture and they didn't move much - I had to hide them altogether for scenes where she wasn't standing up.  And the boots, well they were so wrong.  It's not believable that Penelope as Black Arrow could do all that running and climbing and fighting in silly high heeled boots.  They were also a bit chunky and I went right off the laces too.

Penelope 2017 has had a lot of little tweaks to soften her face and makeup... which you can't really see much in the pic above, but you will later.  She looks a little younger than before.  All this is good, as her tie back hairdo is pretty uncompromising and severe, more so than the old one.  But I think uncompromising is a great new theme for a new tougher Penelope.

I have been watching The Avengers Season 6 and am highly inspired by the wonderful character of Tara King.  She is well capable of beating up henchmen in quite impressive ways, sending them tumbling down staircases and smashing tables.  But she then falls victim to something like a gas capsule or someone waiting behind a door with a club.  This is the right kind of spy vibe for Penelope without disappearing into high camp.  And I would like her to do spy things while dressed in her daily clothes, as well as the actual Black Arrow missions.  The outfit above I threw together as the sort of thing she COULD get away with wearing to the office, if she wanted to be uncompromising.

I have made 2017 Penelope physically stronger, giving her stronger legs, and also you will see her shoulders developed when she takes that jacket off.  Someone that does as many pull ups as her should have perfect toned arms, and she does now.  But don't worry, she will still look very much a woman.

Final thing I want to say is about her boots.  I searched far and wide as I currently have over 40 types of boots in my library.  It's very hard to find any V4 ones that don't have stiletto heels, and the only flat heeled ones are chunky and horrible.  Teen Amanda has a great set of lacy boots but they don't suit Penelope, and anyway I can't have everyone wearing the same boots.  I managed through searching hard to find a model where you could change the height and shape of the heel using morphs.  The boots were superheroine boots and totally the wrong shape and colour, but I made my own transmap to hide the tops and my own black patent leather texture.  I NOW LOVE THESE BOOTS.  And so does Penelope.  As a result, you can expect them to feature in most of her outfits as well as her Black Arrow outfit.
