First up, I just put the old version of Ouroboros up on Newgrounds:

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/692386

(Thanks to those who responded to my call for testing!)

If you have an account and a few minutes, would you be so kind as to give me an upvote? If I don't get a good enough rating, it gets deleted. D= But no worries, this is just to get a little more exposure for my work in general.

EDIT: The game has escaped judgment with an decent rating! It could still use ratings or even just clicks, though. If we can keep a decent rating, we have a chance at getting some more exposure on a daily list. Getting on the front page would be even better, but I don't know the chances of that. Thanks to everyone who has helped out so far, though!

EDIT 2: Huh, we got frontpaged pretty fast. I thought daily top five was about the best we can hope for, but this is unexpectedly good. Votes are still helpful for potential ranking and longevity on the front page - thanks to everyone!

EDIT 3: Alright: frontpaged, daily 2nd place, and thousands of views so far! I was hesitant about this, but it seems to have been a good choice. Now it's just a question of how long the ratings/views keep us on the front page, but it should stay there for at least a while, pulling in some new attention. One more thanks to everyone!

Honestly, this is something I've been avoiding. Newgrounds is not a favorable environment for text-based games, and Ouroboros is a bit of a hard sell in general. However, other devs have been persuading me that all press is good press, and all I have to do is weather some negative reviews. Fingers crossed!

Anyway, now I'm going to talk a bit about what's coming up for TLS. Not in a spoilery way, though, for those who haven't played 0.26.x. More on that next weekend, for now I want to outline how the next period of time will go.

Basically, my concern over the upcoming period is scheduling. Over at Hreinn Games, our new game will be launching at some point fairly soon. We can't say exactly when because we're still working on the final pieces. The problem is that I really don't want to have two releases be simultaneous, that would be too much at once. But since I don't know exactly when KoD will release, it makes it tricky to plan.

Second, I have another side project I hope to be able to show everyone before too long. This one is actually further along than the game I showed $10 patrons a little while ago. I don't want to try to launch it at the same time as a TLS release, or KoD, so... there's another ambiguous variable.

Once I have a polished public version of 0.26.2, I'm going to focus on making the next version as if I could release it ASAP. Depending on how those other things go, however, it could get rushed or delayed.

Ambiguity based on scheduling issues is no fun. =/ I'm going to keep working like usual, though, and I hope to be able to present you all with some good content over the upcoming while. It just might get a little hectic.

Forgotten Legacy

Submitted vote, besides i really do love the game.

just up voted, speaking of which I lost the copy of Ouroboros when my windows horked can I get another link, or is the first link you sent me still active?

One of the best RPGs i've played. The plot twist really broke my mind the first time i played it. Voted as well.

sierralee

It should still be active, unless it's a really old one. If it doesn't work, just send me a message!

My favorite RPG from my favorite developer? You're damn right that I'll do whatever I can to keep it afloat.

Decanter

I think you're the first one I've seen say they explicitly prefer Ouroboros to SL's other works.

Tbh, Ouroboros never really "clicked" with me. It felt like kind of pointless repetition of the same (well it was supposed to be like that, but still) with next to nothing hints of what you are supposed to do. Even after the plot twist reveal you once again have no idea what to do, really. You could fight some tough bosses and try to do things differently, but it didn't quite lead to anything. Yes, i didn't really finish it, but i had no idea what to do next and just kind of lost interest in it in general. Didn't help that I didn't like the MC (both versions of him) either. Maybe it was just the first version and v. 2.0 is better about these things like pointing you to your objective and all that, but that's how it is. Maybe i'll give 2.0 a try, but if it's fundamentally the same, i am not sure if i should even try.

sierralee

Probably not. I don't know how much you did and whether or not the parts you didn't reach would have felt like satisfying payoff, but putting together the pieces of where to go next is sort of the game mechanic. I was going for Zelda-style problem solving, but that's not for everyone and the way I did it is different enough it might not entirely work. No worries, different cups of tea and all that!

Miragian

Well, there's 5.22 votes for you :D I even reviewed it (short but still). Something I almost never do on there.

sierralee

Thanks! It looks like I have more views than many under judgment games, but it might be hard to break out... EDIT: Whoops, spoke too soon! Looks like they've lowered the requirement for leaving judgment to 50 votes, and we passed that.

Dorago

I will upvote as soon as I'm back home, as for the many releases, don't worry, no matter what project will come first, I'm sure I will be happy to play it ^^

Can't Wait

Congrats on the front page (not that there was any doubt).

Thanks for your support! I'm afraid I don't send Ouroboros to everybody, only those who have passed certain dollar/month amounts. So stick around, and in addition to the other updates, you'll eventually get Ouroboros too!

I did some testing in regards of slowdown on NG version. Here's what I found when I opened the game for the first time: - No slowdown at all when moving near the corner of the map (where no map scrolling in any direction happens) - Slight slowdown when moving near the edge of the map when no map scroling happens (like walking up and down near middle bottom of the map) - Huge slowdown during map scrolling. I thought it was related to loading assets but there was no change in slowdown over time - walking on first map for 10 minutes and I've had the exact same slowdown problems as at the begining. Then, after closing the game and starting it again without doing anything else I was able to play the game without any slowdowns at all. Pretty strange.
