EDIT: I'm updating this one because I put the wrong date on it the first time! Lots of new material here, please take a look and comment if you have thoughts.

Couple of things this week! With TLS 0.55.x finally out for all players, I'm looking forward. I was this past week, I just don't have release promotion on my schedule anymore.

Blades Falling Softly

First, a book! There are a lot of new patrons since last time, so some of you might not know that I'm also an author with another Patreon (though patrons here get access to my books, you just have to ask). I've tried to write a number of things over the years.

This one I knew wasn't going to be a bestseller, and it hasn't been. But the book critics have been kind and it's garnered some attention from editors in the publishing industry. Is it going to actually open doors for me? Based on industry statistics, probably not, but this is a short novella so it didn't take all that much time to write. Anyway, here's the link:

OEA Maps

Second, I have a bunch of new maps for you. (I assume most know about my side games, but look here if not.) I've been working on these for a while, but since these were smaller regions and I was trying to focus on TLS, I haven't been showing them all for approval. These are emptier, more combat-focused Tales. If you notice any issues, particularly things that look like objective errors, please mention them!

The first four Tales in the game are Bangville, these two, then Hoodton. My goal overall was for these to contrast, ranging from the absurdity of Bangville to entirely different types of ruined Tales in these two. Moving forward, there will be tons more maps, of course.

I hope that there will also be a fresh new build of the game, as I've been wanting to make for a while. Two amazing patrons (Decanter and Lamsey) have helped me deal with some of the issues that were holding development back. I intend to put some time into this, and I have a promise for you: even if I don't finish the game in this chunk of work, I'll finish a major build for you to play. It should be nice, hopefully 20+ hours of content in one release.

Back next week with some other interesting assets!

Thought this was an old post because it's February.

Thanks for mentioning it. I wish I could tell you that this was the first time I did this, but...

sierralee

That's the opposite of what I intended. On Friday, I needed to compile/upload new versions, update the Steam version/settings, make a lot of announcement posts, and reply to player comments. This didn't require much time this past week, but because I knew that work was coming up, I felt like I wasn't fully finished with 0.55.x.

I'm always massively impressed by your work ethic on not one, but multiple impressive projects. Honestly we should be grateful you choose a career in creative entertainment, because if you went into a career world domination I'd have a feeling we'd all be enslaved in smiling SL dystopia labor camps before we could blink.

Decanter

Golly, that Tale looks rather Bleak. I hope it's not too much for an innocent little girl from Bangville to handle! Is it expected that this upcoming build will have new gameplay/writing content that wasn't in previous builds, or is it more just being able to see the work on graphics and plugins in context?

Darthjake

Thanks SL! I've got it on my kindle, now I really need to buy some reading glasses since I've got 6 weeks before they will get me my prescription reading glasses. But I can see distance just fine, the cataract surgery went off without a hitch!

sierralee

I would like for this to be a complete build; the graphics/plugins are secondary to me. I've already done a lot of work on the final writing and I intend to fill in gameplay things like placeholder bosses. My hope is that, aside from the maps that have not yet been replaced, this build will be a complete game experience from beginning to end. If I manage it, that would mean I can just count down toward release with mapping, and in a sense this project would be off my plate. Approving/improving maps does take more ongoing time than I expected, but it wouldn't be core creative work.

sierralee

Thanks for your support, and I'm glad your cataract surgery went well! Most Kindles can change the font significantly, any chance that would make books readable for you?

Joe ?

whoa i had no idea you were sarah lin. i really enjoyed street cultivation, id never have linked it to the last sovereign though. that is crazy.

sierralee

Haha, you're the first person to tell me that you came to my work in this order! Thank you for your support, and I hope you enjoy the various things I work on. ^-^
