Check out the above CG! Progress continues on those, and I'm actually ready to show another preview of several to some backers, though that will come when I have a bit more time. Some of them I really like, such as this one. You don't see many scenes like this in adult games and I think they enhance the main project of TLS.

Unfortunately, this post isn't all good news. The major thing is that I'm disappointed that I haven't been able to finish the TLS update (can't make promises either). It's not that I've been screwing around, but various issues have come up and I've chosen to invest time taking care of them. I can only ask for your understanding.

Book stuff has been good but has eroded my time. Last post I thought briefly getting into the top 1000 would be my main achievement, but not only have I stayed there, I once peaked at rank 480. This is a good thing, but commercial success makes me less happy than spending all my time writing. It also brings with it various issues.

For example, I got approached by one of the big audiobook publishers (Tantor) and they're offering above average royalty rates. Even though it reduces my profits considerably, I think I'm going to take the deal. They'll be able to get a famous narrator and I won't have the headache of dealing with all those details like with the NGM audiobooks.

Aside from not finishing as much work as I wanted, I also have mixed feelings about this success coming out of nowhere. I wish that I had learned some lesson that I could use to bring more players to TLS, but the internet is random and fickle. In any case, what I can promise is that I want nothing more than to create and I'll keep doing the best I can to finish the update.

Y'all appear to have done the time warp again vis-a-vis the update title. ;D

Please don't worry. Quality takes time, and I for one wouldn't want you to rush the next update to TLS. Pace the project with the time you have so you keep enjoying making it, and thankyou for the continued awesome work!

Thanks for the update on how things are going. The art looks nice and it makes me hopeful for how things will pan out once they get added to the game proper! -". . . commercial success makes me less happy than spending all my time writing. It also brings with it various issues." Sorry to hear that your down in the dumps regarding success and progress. I guess "more money, more problems", rings true in this situation. I hope that you find yourself doing what you want shortly. -"For example, I got approached by one of the big audiobook publishers (Tantor) and they're offering above average royalty rates. " This is nice to hear. It is difficult to stand out when the pool is so large. I hope this works out for you! You always hear nightmares about some of the publishers (think Curiosity Quills for an example), but a bigger one may be a safe bet. -In any case, what I can promise is that I want nothing more than to create and I'll keep doing the best I can to finish the update. Looking forward to it. Can't speak for others but I find myself somewhat hooked on your work regardless of how long it takes.

FWIW, when you say: "I'm disappointed that I haven't been able to finish the TLS update (can't make promises either)" I hear: "Leto doesn't have to spend next weekend making the next update's game logic wiki ready, and maybe not the weekend after that either!"

Darthjake

I'm happy, (and sad for you), Happy that you've managed such great success, sad that it's bringing you down. But you've done so much, and we, (the TLS), community know that you will continue to work to reach your goals. So keep doing what you do best, you are a great communicator and it shows.

Desertopa

When you say that the deal with Tantor reduces your profits considerably, do you mean per-sale, or overall? I would think hopefully one of the benefits of having an actual publisher is the chance of reaching a larger audience, which could hopefully bring you greater profits in the long run. In any case, I'm happy if you're feeling secure enough with your current situation that you're prepared to sacrifice potential profits for comfort.

sierralee

I really appreciate everyone who's willing to let me do things properly. ^-^ But believe me, I enjoy moving forward with updates too.

sierralee

Glad you like the art! We're a ways off yet, but I'm looking forward to the update the establishes the art. Meanwhile, there will continue to be previews of finished scenes. >This is nice to hear. It is difficult to stand out when the pool is so large. I hope this works out for you! You always hear nightmares about some of the publishers (think Curiosity Quills for an example), but a bigger one may be a safe bet. Tantor is one of the big two and I spoke to others who are with them, so I think it should be a solid bet.

sierralee

This update shouldn't include all that much logic behind the scenes, but it includes some story tidbits I hope people will enjoy. ^-^

sierralee

Thank you! I try to always be direct about my progress and I'm glad to have so many people support me in this career.

sierralee

Definitely less per sale due to the royalty agreement, potentially less overall. I spoke to some other successful authors who have deals with Tantor and they said they regret them because they're confident they could have gotten higher profits going alone. If you can afford to approach the same top narrators directly, they say the platform of an audiobook publisher isn't as big as you'd expect. The narrators themselves apparently have bigger followings. I'm sure they'll do a better job of promotion than I would, though, and I'm willing to accept the tradeoff if it simplifies my non-creative work. Now that the contract negotiation is over, it definitely should. >In any case, I'm happy if you're feeling secure enough with your current situation that you're prepared to sacrifice potential profits for comfort. All of you have been supporting me for a while, and I have not been spending the money on cocaine. I'm definitely in a position where I can make decisions based on what I think is best for me as a creator and I hope to improve that position in the future. ^-^

hey take your time sierra we have no problem waiting on till you are done

Glad you're still pursuing audiobooks, as it's the main way I've been getting in book-reading these days. Let us know when they came out!

WaxerRed

I just wanted to say that the Artwork looks really great! I'm very glad to see the added muscle definition to Hilistaria's frame! And I really think that Hilstaria's eyes were nailed in the pic expression wise. It catches her subtle nervous, yet excited mindset- at least how I see it.

sierralee

Definitely will do! Tantor will hire someone who's a dedicated professional, so hopefully that book will come out in reasonable time. Other New Game MInus audiobooks will have to wait until I have fewer pressing goals.

sierralee

Glad you like it! We definitely try to capture the details of the characters and scenes.

Congrats on your success; good to see stories of hard work paying off. I agree with the others though. Take your time, do good work and we will all benefit. Also, hurry up, I'm dying of anticipation! :)

Actual Personman

It sounds like things have gone really well with your book! If you need a fella to scream "SIC TRANSIT GLORIA MUNDI" while waving around a burning rope of flax, my rates are reasonable.

Belly97

The art looks good, but the arms seem a little bit too short/stubby. I think it is because of how short Hilstara's forearm looks, the perspective/pov and maybe how thin her wrist is.

DankPotatoes

With all the praise given to Sierra, can we also take a moment to appreciate the patrons as well? I feel like in most other Patreon's, especially in this industry, the comments are filled with needy and entitled users that constantly criticize and yell at the artist for not working quicker. Here, on the other hand, everyone tells Sierra to take her time, as they genuinly respect and support her. That is actually really nice.

sierralee

Yeah, this is more success than I expected. I will message you for rates. =P

sierralee

I think the foreshortening is correct given the angle, but you might be right about her wrist being too thin. In any case, I welcome careful analysis of the art!

sierralee

And I'm extremely appreciative of it! The positive environment definitely motivates me to work harder.

MadChemist19

Its really nice seeing all this art. Also, just a random thought I had while replaying the game: I was wondering if it would make sense for the Denmiel Archives investment to be reduced from 250,000 ProN if you had the best result when dealing with the Mother's guard because the reason given for the price hike from 100,000 ProN was interference from the guard. It wouldn't have to be reduced all the way, maybe just to 150,000 or 200,000 ProN. Just thought it would fit.

Barissia

Hilstara looking damn good here... Is there a plan to introduce art for every scene or just the radiant ones? Reached the Gawnfall Synod as well and I both hate and love this event, it's very well done and there are so many influence options which are great, but damn did ignoring the Ivalan church for the entire game backfire hard on me... Out of interest, is there a particular reason you decided to make fracturing the church a bad end?

sierralee

All of them! There are six scenes done and once the first chapter is solid, we'll do a big launch with all the art. After that, it won't be done in pure chronological order. Yes, Gawnfall is certainly the most complex event I've done. Possibly too complex, but I did mean it to reward/punish based on how much the player prioritized the Church. On your last question, two reasons among others. One is that I like non-standard game overs and wanted to emphasize that the politics can be just as important as the fighting. The second is that I think trying to do all the branching required by a fractured Church would be a prohibitive amount of work.

aosdh

Damn you Sierra! I played through Gawnfall again to get cooperative action against Fucklord after doing the erosian war twice. I couldn't stand seeing Impaler snuffed out like that, especially when he was finally breaking out of his tsun phase. Having the excel sheet alongside really helped and once again reminded me just impressive TLS is in making even really minor things play a big part. This also does make me want to question if we'll be allowed a cheat sheet of some kind for this game, just to let you check all the secret stats. having a checker in Erosia, Gawnfall and Suitor sections helped immensely in keeping track of everything, but some stats like nations, social, economy and the likes can be really hard and unless you have it jotted down on every save you might find yourself revisting wiki pages and redoing calcs to figure out what they are, while also not being entirely sure of which things you did exactly.

sierralee

Haha, I made that check difficult to potentially make people reconsider their decisions. I originally planned to give the player less information overall, to try to inspire roleplay over minmaxing. The addition of those new checkers is in response to the player demand, but I don't know that I want to expand it to everything.
