Looking back, my break really did not go as hoped or planned. I didn't really take very much time to follow inspiration, though if any $10 backers haven't commented on the monster girl concept, feel free!

The patron release for Desecration of Wings is going to be delayed a little longer because I want it to be as polished as possible. If anyone wants to volunteer as a tester, it would help me put more time into TLS. If you have time and want to play, let me know here.

Replaying really is a larger time commitment than you might expect. It starts out simple and you go over everything so many times, trying to polish it all. But as the number of choices multiplies and the length of the game increases... that starts to become difficult if you also want to keep producing new content.

Recently I brought every single one of my testing saves up to date (some hadn't even started the war), and I was surprised just how long it took. While it is possible for me to try to artificially skip content to save time, I find that this tends to lead to bugs later down the line. So I did a bunch of replaying, and even skipping text/battles, it takes a while.

Right now, I'm uncertain how much content I should put into the 0.30.0 release. That will be my primary focus, however, with DoW taking a distant second place. You can still expect a general release of it this month, since it's mostly done. And of course, I'll always keep everyone updated on my progress here.

That's all for now, see you next week!

I'm unlikely to have much spare time until Friday, but I'm happy to playtest DoW if that timescale would be of any help.

Depending on what you need for a tester, i will be glad to test DOW

the old testing problem, i work in the testing in a couple of game (AAA) some time ago. well, let me tell we never had the time to make a single damn 'legit playthrough', don't speak to testing the various branch (one of the two was a cRPG so they are alot). most of the text was checked in exported document. in a good developement cycle the amount of time spent in bugtesting is usualy between the 33 and the 50% of the total amount of time since the start of the poject and the pubblic release. for a game like TLS try test all the possibility is impossibile, my (little) advice is setup 3/4 'canon' path and stick to them for testing and polishing. any other bug (because there is alwasy another bug, no ecception) will be fix after the release of the game.

Thanks for volunteering! I want to finish up a few more things yet, so I won't be sending out links immediately, but I'll message you when that part is done!

Wow, we got three volunteers fast... that's probably enough for this stage. Everyone else, please look forward to the main release!

Phew, if I spent 33-50% of time on testing, progress would be a lot slower! And yeah, I actually only have a few paths that I keep up to date, with occasional temporary branches. But even maintaining those can take a real chunk of time!

sierralee

Thanks, but some other people jumped on this one super quickly. I'll be happy to have your feedback on the main version, though!

Forgotten Legacy

Sierraa i can test some if you want, just let me know friend.

I think I have enough people for this round, but thanks for offering!

If TLS were a more conventional windows application, I'd suggest you might try partially automating the testing replay system using a scripting engine like AutoIt3. I don't think that would really be practicable here though because you can't really predict where important user interface items will be located outside of the battle screen, and you'd also need a somewhat sophisticated AI to make it through battles. Getting a pattern recognition software sophisticated enough to say "move Simon to the noble woman outside the tavern in the Yhilin Court and talk to her", and coming up with an AI script sophisticated enough to scan and parse the battle messages and react in non-terminally stupid ways would each be programming tasks requiring hundreds or thousands of coder man-hours to do successfully. So much so that paying dedicated testers to do the job is likely cheaper for any given game UI. It might make sense for you to explore farming out slogging through the "testing saves" to testers, although that would require writing a test plan for each test save indicating what discretionary decisions you want them to make, and what secrets you want them to find, plus it'd require them to either use screen capture or extreme note taking to give you an idea of the difficulty they are having with the battles. Worth thinking about, at least. Anyway, now you know why having a couple months without a TLS update that might tempt me to another play through from the start was something I thought desirable, and although I've resisted the temptation to launch a Min-Mining play through, my free time has just been soaked up by other games. Much to the annoyance of my long-suffering therapist.

>TLS Is a really long game that takes a long time to complete. Golly Gee Wiz. Really? I hadn't noticed. In case you can't tell, i'm drowning in sarcasm over here. We've been telling you that your game was a long-ass time investment since the Doomed King started his invasion. Some of us dumb motherfuckers even replayed the game from scratch every time a new update came out, which is a hell of a timesink. We love it though. Lots of content is rarely a bad thing.

I have played TLS three times though and loved it each and every time - and I will probally do another playthrough with the next update (mainly because I lost my saves [This was my fault, I may have accidenlty deleted them). I think the last playthrough took 20hrs give or take (this is an esitmate as I don't acullaty have a clue but I remenber it taking a long time and I loved every minute of it) and a chance to play another one of your games - I'll denfinatly be up for testing another one of your games

It's not really that long of a game. I only have 52h on my main save and I'm almost finished with the Third Arclent War. You can practically play that overnight! (Overnight only valid when played on the northpole during winter.)

I got VX through the Humble Bundle (I wanted MV anyways, so I'm happy with my purchase), so I'll gladly test out DoW and poke through the back end if needed.

When I first started following this project (Over a year ago now, I think). I wouldn't transfer my saves, I would replay the entire game from the start with every new update.

When I was doing some editing for the wiki I was looking at in-game skill descriptions and I noticed that Qum's Arousing Kiss and Arousing Aura have the same description. Are they supposed to be the same? Edit: Realized I put this into the 15th update and not the 22nd, oops.

sierralee

No, the Aura version should probably mention that it targets everyone. Thanks for bringing it up!
