When Basara reached home, after calming down Asia and assuring her that everything was alright, the first he did was call Lucia and ask her what she knew about the events.

Asia followed him but he did not stop her. He knew that Asia wished to change and he wanted to encourage her in her endeavor.

As for Kuroka, it seemed like she went to her room.

Now alone in the living room, Lucia put a sound barrier and listened to Basara explain the events that happened.

At first, she was startled but then her eyes narrowed in silent anger.

“The one you meet was none other than Serafall Leviathan. One of the four Maou.”

Basara opened his eyes wide at this revelation still in disbelief at the thought that he had just met one of the Satan.

One of the reasons he was surprised was that devils usually liked to flaunt their power. It was pretty easy to understand the power level of a devil before the start of a fight.

He didn’t blame them for that. For devils, showing off one power level was akin to a rich man showing off his new expensive car or brand clothes.

It was a mark of their power and status. They had absolutely no reason to hide it and in fact, had to flaunt it as much as possible.

Meanwhile, by hiding her energy, Serafall was akin to a multi-billionaire hiding his fortune and wearing rag.

The analogy might be a little exaggerated but it was the easier way to see this.

When Basara was still an apprentice, he learned early on that the truly dangerous devils were not those who flaunted their might but carefully hid even though they were strong.

By doing so you could never really judge the depth of their power until it was too late to turn back and the result generally ended in a wipeout.

Basara didn’t mistake this act of Serafall as humbleness.

Even though she looked like a cute girl who loved magical girls, one should never forget that she was still a war veteran and obtained her current title after stepping on the dead of body of her enemies.

This went for all the Maou.

“Why are so many people coming to the town.”

Lucia frowned before nodding, “Please give me the day, I promise to get all the information necessary for us to better understand the situation.”

A whirlpool was forming and it was better to know how to stay out of danger. As always, her first goal was to protect Basara.

—-

After Lucia left and Asia went to take a bath, Basara found himself alone in the living room.

At least that was the case until a large black cat begin to come down the stair,

“I guess your talk ended nowÑyaa~!”

It might be weird for many to see a talking cat but Basara had seen too many things to be weirded out by something of this level.

“This form of yours reminds me of the night we meet.”

“You mean the night you saved me? I am really thankful for that.”

Basara shrugged, “Honestly, I was really tempted to simply give up on you you there and simply walk away. After all, I did wish for a normal life.”

“You are pretty honest.”

Kuroka meowled before jumping, still in her cat form, onto his lap.

“I know I am and many people don’t like it.”
“I like truth rather than hypocrisy.”

Basara smiled, before asking, “Can I pet you?”

Kuroka looked up with her feline eyes in surprise. It was the first time anyone asked her this question.

Usually, when she took this form, people seemed to selectively forget that she was in fact a grown woman who could perfectly think and act by themselves.

It was a small gesture honestly. But it was those small gestures that could tell what kind of person you were and what partner you could be.

“I allow you.”

“Hahaha,”

Basara ignored her haughty laugh and began to gently caress the head of black cat,

“Oh~oh~! Oh my, you certainly know how to caress a cat.” [1]

Kuroka almost fell asleep because of how much comfort she was feeling.

This was a first for her.

“So, who was the one chasing after you?”

“Her name is Zest. A devil working for my enemy. Though I guess in a way she is even more pitiful than me.”

Basara nodded. He could see that Kuroka did not really want to delve too much into this topic and so he held back.

“So, what about you? Why is the son of the great hero hiding in this small city? I told my story so it’s only fair.”

Kuroka was really curious. It wasn’t the kind of information that could be leaked easily.

“Well, you told your story so that you could stay here.”

“Hahaha, don’t be a pussy. Don’t mind the small details.”

Basara laughed lightly before nodding and explaining his circumstances. He wished to have Kuroka join his peerage so he did not hide the truth from her.

Kuroka listened idly at first but toward the end, she was fully focused. Her serious face was so cute that Basara pinched her nose slightly.

But a movement from her paw made him understand she did not like this and he complied before continuing the story.

Now that he was retelling the story once again, Basara recognized that it hurts way less than in the past.

What was once an open wound was now simply a scar. The kind of scar that would never truly heal and simply left a trace. But still better than a bleeding wound.

Furthermore, Basara now had a small goal.

He wanted to meet them.

He hoped that one of Kurumi's teammates was Yuki. Like this, the three of them could get reunited.

He didn't know how this reunion would go.

He was even prepared for it to end very badly.

But there might never be another chance for him like this one

He needed to seize this chance.

Looking up, Kuroka saw light shine in Basara's eyes.

She found it very interesting, thinking so she closed her eyes and enjoyed Basara gently patting her head.

'It seems like living here won't be too bad.'

Of course, the same night, as she put the pillow other her ears in order to muffle a little the sound and even wore a mask in order to stop the smell coming from the other room, Kuroko thought that living in this place might have been her greatest mistake.

[1]: Had to fight hard against me to not make the pun that was basically begging for it XD. Couldn’t resist the second one.

(AN: Arc with the Nonaka sister will be hard to write but will do my best. Sigh there are so many girls to develop relationship with. It's tiring.)

That was fantastic. I hope you'll look into continuing this story at some point.
