I have met a few older guard leather men who bristle defensively at the term toxic masculinity. They immediately assume it means all masculinity is toxic without recognizing the distinction between healthy and toxic masculine behaviors.

My partner has had such a bad experience with the kink community as a trans person that he won’t go near kink-friendly bars, parties, or clubs anymore. The toxic masculinity of the leather community specifically, including complete disregard for his identity as a top/dom, has really pushed him out, to the point where he’s extremely resistant to any sort of in-person interaction with kink communities. I’ve convinced him to watch your guys’ channel and I think it’s helping to relax some of those fears and provide access to the kink community in a different way that’s less threatening. I’m still newer (5 years) to kink and would love to be more involved in the community, but I don’t want to discount or invalidate his experience. Sometimes toxicity has a really deep and long-lasting effect.
