Hello everyone!

Today we're going to talk about some changes being made to the Patreon tiers and discord roles. There has been a lot of confusion involving the roles and benefits, as well as the patreon bot itself not working. We're going to try and fix that today, while opening up the high tier roles for more people that wish to pledge.

Unfortunately Patreon has had some changes in the last couple years which necessitates this, and we've also had some confusing issues compounding since these roles were first implemented.  The biggest changes, however, will be to the lowest role, Peon, and to some of the benefits of the lower tiers. We're changing Peon from a $1 to a $3 role.

We will not actually be 'removing' the old $1 Peon role, people who currently have it will retain that role, it will just be unlisted so new supporters won't see it. You will not automatically be charged more and you are not required to upgrade to the $3 tier. Your subscription to this role will not disappear unless you manually remove it or update to one of the new roles.

This is an important decision that has unfortunately been a long time coming. This isn't a case of needing to ask people for more money, it's the fact that a lot of the money we get from $1 pledges is actually going to patreon with how the transactions work.  Currently, Patreon (And SS) is taking roughly 35% of every one dollar tier, which is pretty rough since over 70% of our supporters are $1 supporters. This was a change some time last year, and now even patreon recommends not making our lowest tier $1:

We will also be bringing the higher tier Patreon roles into more decision making, opening the 'Praetorian' and 'Aldrukai' roles to more people while updating them to their intended pricing ($35 and $50 respectively). Praetorians will have an invite in the public discord server that will give them access to a more private testing discord server where they can test early builds and give direct feedback to us devs.

We will also be changing the old 'Bloodbound' role which was for those that pledged a certain amount over their lifetime into a new role called 'Navkatarr' for discord purposes, which will then be locked. The reason for this is because the old bloodbound role caused a lot of confusion, and we still want those who supported us to keep their benefits/lifetime role. So there will only be one Bloodbound for those who are actively donating $25 and our long-time supporters as 'Navkatarr'.

If anything is going wrong for you since this update, if something isn't working quite as it should, please tell us so that we can do our best to fix it for you!

The launcher for the game may also behave strangely today while we update things.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support!

My two cents as a 1$ supporter. Love the work and want to help support the project but to go any higher is a little too much for me atm. I think it's a mistake to get rid of the 1$ tier. Even if you only got HALF of every dollar, lets say 200 new people show up that would have been willing to spend a dollar a month but not triple that amount, now you lose all of it. Almost everyone who already has the 1 dollar tier won't leave it unless they get kicked out, and you can't gain any new 1 dollar patrons. In my opinion I think this will lead to slower growth and less money overall. Just my two cents, if I don't know what I'm talking about or it doesn't make sense just ignore me. Thanks and keep up the great work!

I have 14 different patreons on 1$ a month If I was willing to spend 45$ on patreon per month, I would give 1$ to 45 different creators, as I'm using this more to keep track of projects and as a tip jar than actually paying for things. Patreon is being greedy and making it the creators problem by trying to push creators to charge users more, ever since charging the users more directly backfired.

In the long run this will backfire, I can understand the project being funded by something better, but the project has dragged on too long for my liking. If you'd stuck with the old story direction and graphics and only then started another project along those lines, I would have understood, but to bump it up to $3, no. It's already looking pretty good, but when is it supposed to be finished, 2030?

yeah man im with u here. game looks awesome but the old one looked even better for me and now there is like no progress for a month and all the stuff that comes out is art or a new cg scene. it feels like the game will need 5 or more years to be finished and thats why i dont pay more.

I also find it interesting that the $3/€ Peon level no longer has "Two weeks delayed download" and the $4.50/€ Pilot level has "One month delayed download" so now you have to go back to the Pilot level Download upgrade what? And what about the old peon, it still says "Download was delayed two weeks" or is that going away now too?

I think I'm definitely in agreeance with the sentiment that this game has just taken too damn long and cost too much to bother with any donation amount. The $1 peon was supposed to be a sort of compromise for the time being, a cheap way to support while staying updated. But im an OG fan, only recently did I actually subscribe but i've been aware of the legend of krystal games and the magnum opus that is re:birth for years. But there lies the issue, i've known about this game but most importantly that its been in development for YEARS. version 1 and 2 were scrapped, but version 3 has been up and running and receiving mind numbingly slow updates for a couple years now with essentially no change from 2020. I love this franchise and I love the work thats being put in, but cutting that bottom subscription tier, still giving us no time table, delayed download, increased cost AND monthly updates at best? no, im sorry, im cancelling my subscription. Its not even peon, i was actually donating more a month in hopes some progress would be accomplished, but nothing. very disappointing moves.

Your tribe launcher is broken. It plays the background music but the program don't show up I have to end task for it to stop playing background music

I'll let our programmer know about that and see if we can fix that.

Sorry to hear that, but if you read the post you'd understand why we had to switch from $1 to $3. Patreon was taking simply too much of every $1 because of a flat charge. As for why it is slow, we're not a AAA dev studio. We're an indie dev team, doing a very complex game. Covid also hit us pretty hard. Naturally we're not going to be very fast, I'm sorry it's too slow for you, but we can't magically make development faster, we work as hard as we can on the game, and we post updates on our progress when we make it.

We're not removing the $1 tier for existing subs, but new subscribers will have to go for the $3 tier unfortunately. We simply cannot afford to have the $1 tier be the main source of income for us anymore with Patreon's policy change.

The bump was unfortunately necessitated by patreon's policy changes. We spent months deliberating whether we should make this change or not, we really didn't want to. You'd think a $25 supporter would be equivalent to 25 $1 peons yes? Unfortunately that wasn't the case, a Bloodbound was basically equivalent to 40 or so peons because of Patreon's policy. The flat 30 cent charge was murdering $1 tiers. In the end we decided it's something we have to do because it was just unsustainable. However, the $1 tier for our old supporters still exists, it just can't be subbed to by new visitors. We're doing our best, and we've actually made substantial progress, it's just not easily seen. Once we have the little bare-minimum intro section on the Absolution finished, we'll return to the Razorclaw village and make certain we add gameplay to this game. We also have a rough iteration of combat ready. As I have to mention to many people, we're not a triple A studio, and while that doesn't excuse some of the mistakes we've done, progress on the game is steady. We have a pretty good pipeline now, after shit tons of setbacks. It'll be a while before it is finished, yeah, but how long is impossible to say. We have almost all of the environments for the Razorclaw village done, we just need to tweak them a bit so they are less left/right walking simulator and more convenience to traverse. Then we just need to fill out the village with more people and things to do, which is much easier than environments.
