Hello! This week, I wanted to share how crazy I went with changing time signature in my quick tiny jam session on Marble Zone, from Sonic the Hedgehog. You can watch the original here: https://youtu.be/RvdZMuhXww0

In the attached video however, I've stripped it down to percussion MIDI, the real egg shaker I played, and the metronome, so you can follow along with how often the time changes and how the percussion may or may not accompany that change in the clearest way. These jam sessions are about having fun with the music, so having fun is at the core of every decision!

That being said, the bell actually keeps the groove steady a lot of the time: sometimes I felt it helped me more with the keyboard parts than the metronome did, given some experience I have playing Latin American genres. Sometimes the rhythm section will know how to feel out the music better than a score or a multimeter metronome would.

Also, apologies about the stuttering in the visual playback. My 2012 Macbook Pro is running this session, and it was firing on all cylinders trying to record its screen while playing. It can't even get through the whole song without overloading and stopping playback, hence the fade out when the time signature starts becoming more regular. But hopefully the point comes across nevertheless!

Tiny jam session - Marble Zone Metronome Session

A demonstration of all the meter changes my arrangement of Marble Zone goes through. Please forgive the stuttering playback indicator, my 2012 Macbook Pro is firing on all cylinders trying to display this at a decent resolution.
