Hello! As the month comes to a close, I like to go over my favorite thing about creating the monthly music arrangement. This time it was Tick Tock Clock from Mario Kart. I've included three example files of my favorite parts!

The Tick Tock Clock Melody file is the melody of the Double Dash version of the arrangement. When this came together, it sent shivers of nostalgia through me. It's made out of midi trumpet and saxophone of that era, but for the whistling, I recorded a take myself. Adds a little bit of personal performance to the sound.

The Tick Tock Clock Clocks file is a collection of clock samples that play during the DS version remix. They come from both Waffles's Pik Pack, and from 8dio's Mini collection. I've laid them out here to highlight the metric modulation that occurs during the remix, going from a pattern of sixteenth notes, to one measure of quintuplets, to a pattern of eighth notes in 12/8, all keeping the same pulse going. While working on the arrangement, I referred to that part as the "4-5-6" part.

The Tick Tock Clock CP70 file is one of my favorite instruments, the Yamaha CP-70, emulated using Keyscape. When I did the SNES version of this theme, the piano in the Super Mario Kart soundfont reminded me an awful lot of the CP-70, with its punchy, electric but pianistic tone. So I decided to use a "real" one here, to spice up the arrangement with some very funky patterns.
