This is kind of a weird one--answering the common criticism that certain shows receive for their bizarre tone shifts by defending the existence of tone shifts in general as a cool thing that lets us see different sides of the characters. This is basically the scripted version of my bathos video--I'm sure you'll all have your preferences about which vid you like more lol.

What's Up With Anime Tone Shifts?

Ever notice how anime seems more willing to change tone drastically across its run than most Western media tends to be? Well, I think that's pretty cool!

I'm surprised a video on this topic didn't feature a single mention, nor footage at the very least, of Samurai Flamenco. Have you watched it, Digi? I would strongly recommend it.

I'm not Digi, but he has watched Samurai Flamenco before; he even did a Useless Anime Review on it several years back. If I recall correctly, I think he thought that it's narrative structure was pretty interesting, but kind of awkward at parts, particularly the final arc. He did recommend checking it out, especially fans of superheroes, and said that it was kind of entertaining for being so batshit insane. Ninja Edit: I actually really enjoyed it myself. Though the tone shifts were kind of jarring, I feel like that was the point, and I had a great time with the large majority of the show.
