Hey... hey Patrons... wake up. It's 2023, we survived another year, but I need you to get off my couch and clean up your beer / kambucha cans. Take a couple to go, hair of the dog, I don't care, you just have to get out of my house.  A little bit of deja vu for those of you who partied way too hard on New Years Eve, but you never have to leave the Retro Handhelds house because here you're family. It's New Year, New Retro Handhelds, and this year we're ditching handhelds in favor of becoming professional wrestlers, so LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE! Ok, no, not that new, but we're going to be renewing our focus on expanding this great community with even MORE awesome content and community events than last year!

First let's talk content, because we've dropped some exciting coverage of CES 2023 from our own Stubbs and Thor (and Russ from RGC)! They recorded and podcasted and probably tweeted or something, just A LOT of coverage. That Pimax Portal? Yowza!

Next let's talk Rapid99, the mad genius who we're not entirely convinced is retaining his full sanity juggling the complex tasks of hosting, tracking, and moderating the GOTM and GOTW events, and now he's gone and added ANOTHER? That's right, RPGOTQ (Role-Playing Game of the Quarter) is now an officially sanctioned RH community event that gives you three whole months to complete those RPGs whose long completion times make GOTM voters squeamish. After all, who wants to try and rush through an 80 hour fantasy epic in just one month? Well now you'll get triple that time, and each completion will also contribute to your pool of GOTX points that can be used to redeem awesome merch.

So between GOTM, GOTW, RPGOTQ, and the new GOTY winners that were just announced, you have no shortage of options to earn points and win cool swag. This month we're playing Beyond Oasis, Mystical Ninja Goemon, and Perfect Dark for GOTM, as well as starting Persona 3 for RPGOTQ, so hit the Discord for all the deets you need to start cranking out completions.  Whew, ok, that one was a big one, and that wasn't even counting the fact that now there are like four games you can choose from to play for GOTY, or the fact that 100% Retro Achievements on the RPGOTQ can earn you extra points. Honestly, you should definitely check out our #gotx_announcements channel on Discord because there's SO MUCH new stuff this year, and it's all in the name of expanding GOTX to appeal to every type of gamer. Whether you enjoy short and sweet GOTW, or crunching into a massive RPGOTQ, we got something for you to chat about with fellow community members as you all tackle em together.

Oh and once again don't forget we have written reviews over at https://retro-handhelds.com/ to take a deep dive into these devices in a beautiful and organized article format. We may or may not have trained a team of semi-intelligent bioluminescent fungi to blink out the letters that a slightly less intelligent man then types up into a computer, but we try not to perpetuate rumors around here. Anyway look out for upcoming RG505 and RG35XX reviews very soon from that particular man who isn't taking instructions from fungi at all. Probably.  Anyway, let's wrap this up, I've got a gym membership to renew and a diet to immediately give up on, so I don't exactly have all day.

Just remember that even though I probably won't keep up my promise to myself to meditate for at least 30 minutes a day, the Retro Handhelds team isn't just one dude with poor time management, it's a BUNCH of people with poor time management.

We'll definitely be bringing you more zany antics from Zu no matter what, though, rumor has it Gary is even filming him sleeping at this point. Possible real-life Truman Show concept? (Zuman Show?) Could be a HIT!  So Happy New Years, and welcome to 2023 with the rest of us who can hardly believe how old we keep getting every year.

Love from Raven and all your friends here at Retro Handhelds. Stay hydrated!

PS: you can now email Gary all your fan mail to Gary@Retro-Handhelds.com

(Stubbs made me write that)
