Wow... This episode really changed my view on Chuck and Jimmy's relationship and.. I feel so bad for Jimmy. That's all I can really say without giving away everything that happens 😭definitely a heartbreaking scene. :(

That scene between Jimmy and Chuck is super painful. Part of it seems like some sibling rivalry why Chuck is looking down upon how Jimmy passed the bar. But the thing is, Chuck wasn't wrong. We know what Jimmy becomes. He does fall back and give in to being Slipping Jimmy. Saul is like the ultimate Slipping Jimmy persona. But the ironic thing is, I bet if Chuck truly believed in him, if he was there to support him and notice the changes Jimmy wants to make, he would've never become Saul. It's incredibly sad because of the tragedy. The scene with Mike was also super interesting. It really shows how Mike sees the criminal world. He's already stepping back in to illegal jobs, inching ever closer until he gets mixed in deep with Saul and Gus. He believes that even if you're a criminal, you should still keep your code of honor, and if you do, you're still an all around good person. It's intriguing to see how Mike was a corrupt cop, and goes on to work with a Meth King like Gus, and deep down he might still believe he and his Co workers are good if they follow this code. Mike is such a gray character, and I love how Jonothan Banks is bringing these grey, muddled morals to the table.

There is a lot of conflict as to whether Chuck is right or wrong. It's probably because it's a bit of both. Jimmy did work really hard to be an honest lawyer and really did pass the bar. But we have seen that he's willing to slide back to his Slippin Jimmy ways & schemes in order to get business/notoriety. It's clearly something he's very good at. Chuck obviously knew Jimmy his whole life and saw the type of person he was back in Cicero, Illinois (their home town) and his line of "people don't change" says a lot about how he views Jimmy in spite of his more recent steps on the good path. Of course we see who Jimmy becomes, Saul; abusing, bending and outright breaking the law for his own gain. So is Chuck right? or would Jimmy have turned out fine if Chuck didn't judge him and hired him at HHM?

Max Hassam

It's a massive twist that they threw in with Howard being Chuck's fall-guy for blocking Jimmy. Now you know the twist, it's certainly worth a re-watch of the boardroom meeting between Chuck, Howard and Jimmy. Howard's look to Chuck at the end (25:50) says VOLUMES about how he feels with hindsight, but without it you miss it. Great reaction as per V :)

Max Hassam

I agree. It's a proper Schrodinger's Jimmy as to whether he was always bound for Saul or whether the rejection Chuck showed him out of fear for him becoming Saul pushed him into becoming Saul. It's probably a mixed bag, but how so?

The more you think about it, the more you're going to be angry at Chuck. It's a terrible thing. And if you go back and watch your reaction to last episode, you'll be even more angry. It's insidious. And insidiously amazing writing and acting.

Personally, I don't think it matters if Chuck was right or wrong in his assessment of Jimmy. The real issue is that Chuck pretended to support Jimmy. Claiming he was working on Howard to get him the job. That he was surprised that Jimmy couldn't be hired at HHM. "I'll work on Howard. Maybe he'll change his mind" When the whole time, he was actively working to keep Jimmy down. If Jimmy had been hired at HHM, maybe he would've become a respectable lawyer, or maybe he'd still end up as Saul. There's no way to know. But to have someone pretend to be supportive while actively working against you, that's just wrong. If he had told Jimmy from the start that he wasn't going to support him at all, maybe Jimmy goes out and makes it on his own, or at a different law firm. Maybe he finds the support he needs. Maybe. But instead, he was stuck in the mailroom and put down at every opportunity. Chuck is morally and ethically wrong here. He could've support Jimmy, or he could've turned him out. Either choice would've at least been more honest.

Chuck was the bad guy all along. Hamlin just takes the heat for Chuck's wrongs. I guess that explains why he cock-blocked Jimmy back in the mail-room days too? I really hope Chuck isn't the one putting the knife in his brother's back, because that's ice cold after everything Jimmy has done for him.

Aot Tuesday! My favorite episode

This is actually more heartbreaking on the second watch. There are subtlety's in Michael McKeen's performance as chuck that have foreshadowed his true feelings all along. The crazy part is he is not entirely wrong in his assessment of Jimmy but I have no doubt that he gave a big push to what he will eventually become. The speech that Mike gave about being a good or bad criminal I think sums up his character and his future. So many good scenes in this episode. For the uninitiated, that was Trevor's actor Steven Ogg from GTAV, that Mike clocked in the throat.

When Jimmy called Howard a "pigfucker," that was the first F-bomb I ever heard on basic cable. I was kinda stunned. The few that were in Breaking Bad were censored. Like when Walt said "fuck you" to Gretchen, the F was muted.

Jalves

The 20 % Jimmy will get from Sandpiper is a lot, so he's okay with that percentage. It's a massive multi-million dollar case with the only caveat being that it will take a few years to settle it all even with HHM working on it. 20% is more money he's ever seen and then some.

Gabriel Berilli

At this point in the story what did Jimmy had done that was illegal or morally unethical? The only one I could think is the one where he threw the coffee on the detective. Which was Mike's idea. Sure he "robbed" the kettlemans but he did not kept a dime. What I mean is, even though his methods were unorthodox his heart was on the right place. And all he wanted to do was to make Chuck proud.

Gabriel Berilli

The flashback were Jimmy tells Chuck he passed the Bar you can see that Chuck's didn't really meant it after you see this episode, and even the first time when Howard to Told Jimmy he didn't wanted him working on HHM it was all Chuck speaking through Howard. And what really makes me angry is that Chuck was pretending he was on Jimmy's side just for his image to stay intact.

Max Hassam

He tried to con Betsy into hiring him by getting her involved in a traffic collision lol. and he staged the billboard rescue for business. I agree that he wanted to make Chuck proud by being a good lawyer, but he has a tendency to fall back on his old ways. A quick line of dialogue that sums them both up well I think is in S1E5 when Chuck gets back from the hospital, Jimmy says (about the billboard stunt) "from here on out, I'm gonna play by the rules" and Chuck replies "as any lawyer should"

Dustin

It's a self fulfilling prophecy. Chuck couldn't accept Jimmy because he was worried Jimmy would become Saul Goodman. But Jimmy only becomes Saul Goodman because Chuck rejected him

Phenomenal acting from Michael McKeen as Chuck in this episode

BobJ

I think they censored those after airing on Breaking Bad. My understanding is that Breaking Bad / AMC always had 1 F Bomb a season and it was a big deal who got it. Final Season - Hank "My name is ASAC Shrader, you can go F yourself" Season 5 - Mike "Shut the F up and let me die in peace" .....

Tim Martin

Chuck can handle Slippin’ Jimmy just fine…but Slippin’ Kimmy? And it’s too bad the Jello people wouldn’t play along or every title of season 1 would have ended with the letter “O”. But “Alpine Shepherd Boy” is almost as good LOL 😂

This is when the show really starts cooking

Joe Blankenship

Looked like he'd been holding in that "you're not a real lawyer" comment for a long time.

I can not tell you how much I love you because of your mind. Youre extremely perceptive and youre not overbearing and youre able to understand key points of the plot and make interesting comments and of course half of the credit goes to the interesting nature of BCS but you make rewatching it an awesome journey for me. I just really love what you do with these reactions and I am thankful that youre in my life to this small extent because it brightens up my life. I hope that makes you feel good

vkunia

Thank you for this comment because often i hear I'm dumb and not perceptive etc. Youtube comments have definitely hurt me 😭

Edward Garrity

it was Chuck the whole time. Howard didn't have a problem with Jimmy practicing law under his own name, Chuck did! Amazing twist!

Steve H

Look at Chuck's side; Jimmy's as green as they come, & Chuck already knows Jimmy's defects, and to make him a parnter, the Lawyers would not jump at letting Jimmy in; the firm has been building itself for years; letting Jimmy in is a backward move.

Richard Najera

You absolutely have the best reactions and comments over Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul episodes! You really do try to analyze the characters presented and their actions. Thank you for being you <3
