Everytime I see this episode and any that is about Mike, I am reminded of what Walt did to him. This is why a part of me will always hate Walt for what he did. Mike's character is really awesome, and it makes it so much more tragic that his death literally meant nothing. Mike died because someone else couldn't control their emotions. And his poor granddaughter is gonna have one less family member to grow up with. It's so shocking how close Mike was to not existing, if Bob Odenkirk had showed up that one day of recording. Mike was made on a whim, but Jonathan Banks has really brought such a dimension to him, showing how he ends up being Gus' fixer. Mike also isn't really concerned with the law. It shows why he's been a dirty cop. He follows his own sense of justice. Also I think you missed it, but Mike wasn't acting in self defense. When he pulled out the second gun, it was stuffed in the seat of the car. Thats why Mike opened the car before he went in the bar. He planted it. So this was premeditated.

This episode…so good! Top 5 for sure (imo). “I broke my boy” gets me every damn time. 😢

This show will definitely make you go "uhh Walt, what did you dooo!!" a lot haha. I love this episode. Very ballsy of them to barely feature the title-card character in the 6th episode, when that character isn't even going by his name in the title LOL, but I love fleshing out Mike's story. Some bits you may have missed: - Mike planned his whole revenge back in Philly. He sowed worry in the two cops by saying "I know it was you" to them, knowing they'd do something about it, then pretended to be very drunk so they'd pick him up, and he'd planted the gun under the back seat when he broke into the cop car. - Jimmy asked Mike how he knew he'd do that unethical trick to get the notebook (if you re-watch it, you can see Mike grab it), but secretly he knows the answer. Like Betsy Kettleman said: "you're the sort of lawyer guilty people hire." People have a shady or dodgy image of Jimmy as a lawyer just from interacting with him. Betsy didn't see him as a proper lawyer and Mike knew he'd be the type to do that stunt. And they're right! He's Slippin' Jimmy! He's doing his darndest to not be that to keep in Chuck's good books, but he can't seem to shake that aura he gives off. Loving how fast you're ripping through these episodes, hope that means you're really enjoying it! Can't wait for more :)

I was on board with BCS from the get go. But this episode showed me it could reach, and even surpass the level of quality of Breaking Bad. 10/10 show.

This adds another layer to the relationship between Mike and Jesse. Makes you wonder if there was something about Jesse that reminded him about Matty.

A top tier episode for this series and a powerhouse Jonathan Banks performance. If it wasn't clear beforehand, then this episode proves that this isn't going to be just a simple spin-off. It does make me upset seeing Mike like this after BB. Despite knowing he eventually enters the criminal world, he was always a straight shooter and although he could be a methodical killer, he still had a some morals.

best episode :( i love mike

It was premeditated but in a way that no one would suspect, I think it could count as self defense because they wouldn't know that he hide the gun on the car. The self defense wouldn't hold because of the last shot in the head with the guy in the ground unarmed.

As always Vince always a master in character development an giving them depth. Mike was a great character in BrBa but after this episode Mike became an even better character in BCS and BrBa

He was nominated but Peter Dinklage won that year. I think he was surprised that Jonathan didn't get it instead of him.

Now we see how Mike ended up breaking bad. And yeah, it's sad to know how his story ends. He deserved better than that.

First, you asking how can he be just chillin' on the train with a GSW like that had me saying, "Have you met this man? This is MIKE we're talking about..." :D But then we really get into it, how he reads Jimmy as a lawyer who'll bend a few ethics or morals to help a client - or settle debt in this case. Then the whole story of why he came west and finally the scene with Stacy, which is one of the most powerful scenes he does in either BCS or BrBa. This all establishes how much this show IS Jonathan's show too, not just Bob's. It also illustrates just how stellar an actor Jonathan really is. He's been around F O R E V E R (since 1976, but ALMOST all his best and most famous roles came in the 21st century). Your reaction was obviously - and as always - very honest. I love that you really let yourself go and dive into the story like you're actually experiencing everything along with the characters. This is such a heavy one, and I get very emotionally invested, just like you do. And yeah... We'll see that vet again... Oops, spoiler? Nah, my first time watching I knew that would be the case; it's so obvious.

Yes, talk about Breaking Bad as much as you want. When we watched this show when it first came out, we always referenced Breaking Bad. I would give a spoiler alert before each show though.
