HI GUYS! AS PROMISED, we start BETTER CALL  SAUL TODAY!!! I'm extremely excited to be in the breaking bad universe once more! Some say this show is better than Breaking Bad... It is time to judge if it is! I'm  just excited to see more SAUL!!!!!!

Saul was the comic relief, in such a high octane show, glad they gave his character his own show to truely showcase his acting talents lol

You are going to love this show. I don't think in terms of better/worse than Breaking Bad. It all somehow manages to become one big story. BCS manages to elevate BB even further. I miss both those shows so much.

Leaning against a concrete wall, sharing a cigarette…that parking garage…iconic shot similar to the long view down the hallway of the Walter and Skylar White residence. Jimmy’s friend, Kim, with her pony tail. These things become their own characters. Did you catch the shot of Jimmy walking towards the white Cadillac, only to cut to the right at the last second and open the door to his lovely pee yellow Suzuki Esteem? Did you catch that the car the skater twins targeted was a Ford Taurus, not a Mercury Sable? Lots of small details that may be hard to catch. What is the relationship between Chuck and Jimmy? Chuck mentioned Jimmy’s “cronies in the mail room”??? This show hooked me from the get-go just like BB. Glad you have also started this journey.

Right on. The better/worse talk is all opinions anyway, and everyone has one. This is a good thing, but it can also cause confusion (and possibly enmity), so saying it's really "one big story" is much better.

You already knew Saul, now you get to meet Jimmy. This is my first rewatch of the show and certain elements here were already reminding me of later seasons and made me feel nostalgic. You already noticed how well it is shot and that stays the same throughout the show. It feels like we never even left Albuquerque. Keep an eye out for easter eggs for BB because this show is filled with them.

I can't do it that way and sometimes I wish I could. I just can't have both on one screen nor have my two screens side by side; so if I'm watching a show/movie with a creator's reaction, I'm usually too busy looking at the material to see the reactions - only hear the audible parts. So I find it distracting; but if you have a better way, by all means go for it! : )

J, this is my (I think only) 4th time thru the show, one time with a creator's reactions, and I probably haven't even noticed half the Easter-eggs yet... :D

I'd put myself in the camp of Better Call Saul is better than Breaking Bad. If I had to pick one. It's the same folks making it and they've just gotten better at making their shows.

So glad you are starting this show! As great as Breaking Bad is, I am firmly in the camp that says Better Call Saul is better. Very curious to see where you end up once you have made it to the end. Crazy fact about this show: It was nominated for a total of 53 Emmys over the course of its run and never won a single one!

I watched The last of Us for the first time along with Vee and was very smooth for me. You won't catch all the series details but It's also a nice experience.

@MertzRocks I can see that :) But for some reason, it was very smooth for me. I have V in the left corner, and most of the screen is the show, and overall it's very easy to watch both the show and V's reactions. Perhaps not using two screen helps :)

I personally disagree, but your opinion is not completely absurd or anything. I can see people liking BCS better, it is in some ways more sophisticated and complex. Camera work and general cinematography have improved aswell. I just like the topics of Breaking Bad more, it excites me more and gets me more hyped.

Loved the reaction! Better Call Saul is character-driven, Breaking Bad is story-driven. If I had to choose I'd go Breaking Bad, BCS takes a lot from Breaking Bad, but BCS reaches Breaking Bad heights and thats the greatest compliment you can give something!

this show is like breaking bad where it keeps getting better and better the first part of season one is super hard to follow at first but things start making sense a little later, love this cant wait to see more keep up the amazing stuff V

I love this show. I'm sure others have mentioned it, but it is important to remember that BCS is more of a slow burn than BrBa. That's not a bad thing, but it can be jarring to pick up this series immediately after high intense episodes like To'hajiilee/Ozymandias/Granite State/Felina. The energy will gradually pick up over time. Personally, I think BrBa is the better series, but BCS has better character development (ESPECIALLY for secondary and tertiary characters) and far more impactful long term payoffs.

Ugh the Emmy snubs were just so ridiculous and frustrating. It's hard for me to take the academy seriously after the disservice they did to this series.

As you pointed out, the cinematography style is carried over from Breaking Bad, you will see its shots and camera work get even better. Breaking Bad was modern neo-western sort of thriller, and many people notice in the beginning, like Dean Norris has pointed out in interviews, that it was a comedy at times, a darkly comedic satire at points that evolved into what it became. I was able to see the comedy having the Malcolm in the Middle dad play Walter, who I did not even recognize at first with the demeanor change of a great actor creating his character. Better Call Saul is not the same type of show, even with overlaps, and that is the reason some people will say one is better than the other, because of their individual preferences. I cannot choose a favorite child, so I cannot choose a favorite between the two, but I will say that Better Call Saul was the best show on television when it ended last year. The cinematography becomes glorious, the writing feels more intricate whereas in Breaking Bad it flowed like a river waiting to flood. I will say that the characters here in this show are better developed and even the minor characters become memorable. You are yet to know which are the best characters and which you will hate because of some great television craft. It's gonna be an amazing ride.
