I know how hard this episode is to get through. I think it’s necessary to understand the other side of what we saw in the first episode, though. To see the horrors that soldiers go through fighting for humanity. The scenes with the families of the dead soldiers always hit me so hard, especially Petra’s father. Someone might have already mentioned it but the patch Levi gave Dieter wasn’t actually Ivan’s. It was Petra’s, he cut it off her to keep for himself but then lied and said it was Ivan’s just to bring Dieter some comfort. And that right there is why I love Levi so damn much. 😭 I promise not every episode will be so heartbreaking! There are glimmers of hope and humor here and there. If it was just sad all the time, I couldn’t have continued watching. I remember feeling sick to my stomach at times, so you’re not alone. Oh and as for the intros, what I used to do to avoid watching was close my eyes and vibe with the music haha. They are long intros! Anyway, looking forward to the next one, which is a great one! Thanks for sharing your honest feelings with us.

yet another reason the dub is better than sub imo sub: let them go, they're nothing special dub: leave them behind. consider it their final act of service sub: *gives patch* this is proof they were alive dub: We leave their bodies behind, it's our duty to carry them in our memories Also for whatever reason there seems to be more/better animation in the Dub. There's fully animated sequences and i notice on the sub it's just like alot of times a flat image panning across the screen It seems like whoever translated the sub version really wanted to portray Levi as someone who just doesn't give a shit about people, but the way he's represented in the dub is someone who has survived all of these horrors every time he's left the walls and is guiding his people through processing the terrible decisions he's had to make to preserve himself all this time. That's why his eyes look the way they do. He's so burdened with the weight of so much death that he wears it on his face. He's faced so much horror that even losing an entire squad isn't enough to make him cry anymore, but he's not walled himself off from his emotions, he uses that to help the surviving members of the scout regimen keep getting stronger. really annoyed with the subs regarding his character tbh

It was already pointed out. Levi approaches a row of bodies and bends over to cut a badge. Could be implied that that row was his squad, and that he got their badges. Since these scenes were not part of the manga, I can't quite conclude that it was Petra's badge. But I think it is heavily implied that it was the only one that he cut, you see the hand with the bite mark, and they had little time to take off back home. SO I do want to believe and have faith that it was Petra's badge, and Levi gave it up, gave up his own psychological and emotional and sentimental comfort, in order to comfort the one grieving scout, who needed it just as much and had nothing, so Levi choose to comfort him. Levi has more character and depth than most of the fan favorites, and it's amusing when some dismiss him as just the badass fighting stereotype. And they don't have to completely spell it out, they give room for the audience to interpret it and catch it on their own perhaps in further or second viewings. Depressing yes, but beautiful too in its own twisted way, the way of Attack on Titan.

You watchted the bluray version. It exists for both the dub and the sub.. there aren't any dub exclusive scenes.
