There really are no 'good guys' in this series. The closest to a good guy in Breaking Bad is Hank. Hank who nearly beat Jesse to death because he was angry. Most tv shows have lots of characters who have a very nice 'redemption arc'. This isn't that kind of show. The next episode is .... unique. Unique to the series too. Personally, I love it. I'm looking forward to watching your reaction to "Fly"

Kafkaesque means "absurd, menacingly enigmatic." Derives from the style of Franz Kafka (German writer in the early 1900s).

I don't think Walt and Jesse are really getting screwed with their deal. This whole operation is gigantic, with a ton of costs and lots of people to pay. In an earlier episode, Gus even said he needed "200 pounds per week to make this economically viable". Also, Gus is taking all the risk. Walt and Jesse are basically employees now, which also means that they only have to worry about cooking and don't have to deal with all the other stuff that caused them problems before anymore. The only thing I always found strange is why Walt has to share his earnings with Jesse. He didn't have to share with Gale, and Jesse is replacing Gale. So why is Gus not paying Jesse? Regarding the "everybody in the show knows what kafkaesque means", Jesse just pretended to understand at the meeting. And when he used the word in the conversation with his friends later on, he probably still didn't know what it means, he just wanted to use a big word to impress them. And you could see in both of their reactions that they, as well, also pretended to understand.

I'm sorry I don't mean to pick on you V, but sitting there trying to think of the words "fry batter" while they were stacking buckets that said "fry batter" across the front was top tier hilarity. I get tongue twisters and brain farts all the time so don't take it personally. I feel ya, but I was cracking up! lmao

SHE SAID THE THING! lmao! DO NOT SAY A WORD, don't comment, don't spoil, just like my comment IYKYK. Enough said. lol Plz don't make me regret commenting, I really don't want it to lead to any spoilers. thx <3

"There is no other show that does character development as well as Breaking Bad. There are so many intricate details that I'm catching for the first time, and this is my 5th time watching the show. This next episode is a perfect example of character development, but some people didn't like it. I say it's perfect."

This is where we start to see just how much of a genius Gus is, it's so exciting. He's like a chess master, every move he makes isn't just accomplishing one goal. He's protecting and attacking at the same time. so the part with Walt closing his eyes driving down the road, it reminds me a lot of when he first stood up to Tuco. He realized that he just dove one level deeper into the game and he has to deal with the persistent threat of Tuco, and now with Gus. That super calm meeting Walt had proved to him that Gus is significantly more intelligent and cunning than he thought he was, which means Walt is NOT in a cushy job, he's working under a man who's in the early stages of starting a war with the cartel, and he's relying on walt's production to sustain him through that war. So Walt driving away from that meeting, in his mind I think he was saying "I made some money, I can just end it now and my family is safe" but he chickened out or felt some kind of divine intervention from the truck honking at him and swerved at the last minute. Whats funny is now we start to see Skylar break bad herself. She initially started hooking up with Ted because it made her feel in power and in control, and that she was forcing Walt's hand. But on top of her not getting her way with the divorce at first, and Ted turning out to have compromising morals as well (needlessly expensive house/car, claiming he's embezzling money to keep his workers employed while he lives extravagently), she's starting not only to resent Ted but coming to the understanding that everyone is kind of scummy in their own way, and at least Walt is doing it to provide for her and Walt junior, so she's at the same time pushing Ted away and starting to help Walt integrate the money into their lives by supplying the gambling story. This will give her a way to explain why their money problems are starting to go away

Yeah for sure. Considering Jesse knows if he made 200 pounds of meth a week he'd have no way to move it. If you think about the math, 200 pounds * 12 weeks, that's 2400 pounds of meth, at 40 a pound like he said, for him to make 1.5 million on his own in 3 months he'd have to sell 37.5 pounds of meth by himself (or with skinny and badger). I don't know why he doesn't consider all the factors - Gus should at least get like 30% off the top imo, that's a fair share for ownership - Distribution. Dude has the whole thing on lock - Security. The whole operation is completely enclosed. Nobody can hurt him - Security(again) you don't have to deal. There's no risk of getting stabbed or shot - Security(again again) you don't have to deal, so you can't get caught cooking OR dealing - You don't have to buy/steal precurser. It's not like he was about to go steal another barrel of methylamine. Getting boned, really jesse? big domey

If you thought this episode was slow… ho boy. Just you wait. Lol. Next up, “The Fly” 😂

V, did you ever read The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka? One of my favorite high school novellas. It begins like this; "As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect. He was laying on his hard, as it were armor-plated, back and when he lifted his head a little he could see his domelike brown belly divided into stiff arched segments on top of which the bed quilt could hardly keep in position and was about to slide off completely. His numerous legs, which were pitifully thin compared to the rest of his bulk, waved helplessly before his eyes." There is something darkly comedic about it, kinda like Breaking Bad was at the beginning, almost a dark comedy those first few episodes. Kaf•ka•esque (ˌkɑf kəˈɛsk) adj. 1. of, pertaining to, or characteristic of the writings of Franz Kafka. 2. marked by a senseless, disorienting, often menacing complexity 3. surreal, with an ethereal, "evil", omnipotent power floating just beyond the senses. After solidifying his contract with Gustavo Fring, Walt has finally sold his soul and chosen his fate..... He knows he is damning himself, breaking bad, however deep, subconsciously. In a final effort of self-sabotage, he closes his eyes as he drives down the highway....a brief and ironic moment of clarity, perhaps to stop the inevitable suffering he knows will come as a result of his actions. Death and the impotency of not providing security for his family. Life and becoming something he did not foresee. Walter told Gus once before, "I cannot be the bad guy..." Was he trying to kill himself? Was he trying to feel alive? In a weird way, both.

2024-02-09 06:32:39 Franz Kafka was a German writer from around 1900 whose works often evoke a character's helplessness and disorientation in overpowering, opaque bureaucracies. "Kafkaesque" refers to situations like that, so the counselor is evoking Kafka to refer to Jesse's job situation (as he describes it), it being meaningless, droning work where all of his coworkers and superiors are "dicks". What Jesse has always really wanted is to be his own boss. To take things in his own hand, do things the way he wants to do them and have people appreciate his work. That's what his story about the box is about and that's what him sneaking behind Walter's back to sell meth to the addicts is about. He probably knows on some level that it's not right but he just wants to regain control and maybe also gain some appreciation for his clever idea (however immoral it is) because appreciation for his intelligence is something he never gets from Walt.

So, Skylar's finally breaking bad now. Been wondering when we'd get to this episode. She probably figures if she's committing tax fraud just so Ted can have his big fancy house with the heated floors, she might as well do it to help her own family. It would seem that cheating on Walt with Ted made her understand Walt more. Ted doesn't wanna file bankruptcy just like Walt doesn't wanna beg his rich friends for money. And Hank was too proud to admit he needed help. Marie was too proud to acknowledge her kleptomania. And Walt Jr. was too proud to drive with only one foot.

...what? he read books? highly susp

Steve H

I like the part where Walt leans in, the same time Marie leans in.

I love how you read "don't say a word, don't make me regret this", then commented the one joke that spoiled what I was referencing. you can't have anything nice or do any kind of inside jokes with humans. smh

Jonah Bertorelli

It was a good joke in response, but blatantly revealed what I was trying to reference. lol
