The explanation of the Titans and this city is a core story line so you don't get all the info you want anytime soon. A lot of character development is in the way first. Here is a description of the wall/city setup. Wall Maria is the outer most wall. Between Wall Maria and Wall Rose is mostly farm land. Small communities and individual families growing food for everyone behind all the walls. Between Wall Rose and Wall Sina (the inner most wall) is mostly regular city folk, tradesmen, merchants, more farms, and some soldier training grounds, most of the city is behind Wall Rose. Behind Wall Sina is the wealthy and rulers of the city. Wall Sina is also, supposed to be, designed to bring in all the city's folk for protection. In addition to the walls, each wall has a double gate with a tiny town within the gate area. I'll explain, Say you want to go behind Wall Rose. You walk up to the outer gate, are let in and you see a city of people in a walled off mini-town of sorts and at the opposite end of where you entered is another inner gate that lets you in behind Wall Rose proper. Each Wall has these mini-towns at the gates of each wall. And that mini-town is where our characters lived and was attacked in this first episode.
