FINALLY... Here is Dune! So... I clearly had no idea what Dune was about or what it entailed based on my outfit LOL (Brown/sandy is the color of Dune ok)
This movies entire aesthetic was so pleasing to the senses and I really liked the complicated, overlapping concepts that blended into one, visually stunning movie. It's clearly a work of art and I had gotten so invested and immersed in the movie that by the end, I DID NOT WANT IT TO END 😭
Everyone said I would enjoy it, and I really, *really* did. I loved the entire vibe, the visuals, the music (thanks Hans Zimmer), acting and writing. It was a super complicated idea that had been portrayed skillfully, so I respect that very much. I know there were parts in the book that weren't included in the movie but I still think it was fulfilling enough. :) Thank you guys for watching, let me know what you think please!! Enjoy your day ❤️

P.S!!
Sorry this took so long, I've been having issues with settling in and with editing so of course everything sorta had to go wrong at the same time, I'm just happy to finally be back on the upswing 😊

The book describes them as ornithopters, flying vehicles with flapping wings.

Denis Villeneuve *is* attached to direct Rendezvous With Rama. 😊 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0134933/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

This is the reaction that sold me on subscribing to your Patreon! (Well technically the YouTube version) You have a great channel here! Kudos! 😊🙏

We all love the outfit choice anyone who says otherwise is lying

I believe the continuation of the story will be released sometime next year. Unlike the 1982 film they decided for this one to spread it into two parts. Similar to what was done with the recent "It" adaptation.

Loving this reaction so far Vee! Great way to start my Sunday. "Big Star Wars Energy" I love that you said that, because it's the other way around. DUNE was released as a book in the 1960s and inspired nearly every modern sci-fi movie we know today! It's the granddaddy sci fi story! Star Wars, Star Trek, Warhammer 40K, all pulled heavily from the influences and characteristics of DUNE. Which makes it even more amazing than it already is.

Out of curiosity, are you going to do the other X-Men movies? You mentioned doing the X-Men trilogy so I’m wondering if you’re still going to do the other X-Men movies. Most of them are really good and worth watching.

vkunia

Oh yes I saw!! the second part is apparently coming out next year :)

vkunia

omg no way!! that's amazing, I had no idea thank you so much for telling me :) that's pretty interesting I'm surprised!!

Glad to hear you are on the upswing. I still have a huge backlog of your full reactions i want to get through but it is always fun to see what you are watching next. Also are you planning to start doing your Twitch streams again soon? I just started watching when you were doing your Stray play through and looking forward to seeing more

Inhuman Paradox

This was a movie I didn't expect to love. I'm a diehard fan of the original novel, and the Lynch film had me convinced you couldn't do Dune right as a film. Even with it being split into two parts (A good choice so as to keep the story mostly intact), I was convinced Dune couldn't work as a film. But Dennis pulled it off. He created something that truly feels like Herbert's Dune while having some flavor of its own. Easily my film of 2021.

Lich King

You got that exactly right about the big Star Wars Energy, since Star Wars was heavily inspired by the Dune books written by Frank Herbert Also the year is 10191 but according to their calendar so if we're considering our calendar this would be set around 30000 years in the future from now

Next ornithopter Paul is in just call it 'Serenity' No problems calling it a firefly then!

It's amazing that we never get to see the emperor, but he's moving all the pieces like a game of chess. Interestingly the emperor weakened both the Atreides and the Harkonnens but in different ways. Yeah the Atreides were basically destroyed but the Harkonnens had to pay for the whole attack with their own money. When the Baron is in the oil and spice healing bath he says "you have no idea what this attack cost" to Batista. The Harkonnens practically used up all their savings to fund the attack. So the Emperor took down House Atreides and made House Harkonnen much less wealthy in the process, and therefore less of a threat to the emperor.

And did it without getting the Laandsraad to turn on him, thus bypassing the balance of power that keeps him in check.

Lady Jessica is Leto's legal concubine, a bene gesserit "orphan" who doesn't officially haven any important bloodline. He never married to keep open the possibility of making an alliance with another house.

Dune was published 6 years before George Lucas started writing Star Wars. Some even accuse George for stealing his ideas from Dune. There are tons similarities and connections that can be seen but enough of a difference, imho, to enjoy them separately. Dune is better tho, lol.

Great reaction Vee, I'm thrilled to have finally watched this! It is so incredible and immersive, I dont think I blinked for 2 and a half hours lol, and we need part 2 asap!

"...they took a religious aspect and almost made it into a politcal issue..." LOL, almost? There is no almost about it, this universe is wall-to-wall politics. Nobody farts without considering the political implications.

Uthacalthing

Both Dune and Star Wars were inspired by Foundation, written by Isaac Asimov more than 20 years earlier, and the first science fiction work to incorporate the concept of a galactic empire. Many critics consider Dune to be Frank Herbert's commentary on the concepts introduced in Foundation. Both Dune and Foundation stand, deservedly so, at the pinnacle of science fiction. Now if only someone like Denis Villeneuve would make a movie out of Rama, my life would be complete...

Texas Anla'Shok

I think the dragonfly aesthetic is just in this movie. The other two adaptations don't have them and I don't recall them being specifically described like that in the book (though it's been years since I read it).

This story accomplished world building in a spectacular fashion and the way the author used the teaching of Paul to prepare for the move was a clever way of introducing the reader to the world as well. As much as I wanted more this was probabaly the best size chunk that could have been bitten off for a movie. My one gripe is it seems to take a lot for granted and almost feels written for a fan of the books and left out some great elements in the sorry that a new viewer would not be familiar with. If you have the time, read the book but stop at this point of the fight with jamis so you don't spoil the second half and you can get familiar with some of the smaller details that were left out.
