So here is the first episode of Band of Brothers! So far I felt this episode was more setting the scene as well as to introduce you to the characters and how they got in the position in. I didn't expect to see David Schwimmer in this show, let alone the first episode so I thought that was pretty funny actually. He played his role beautifully of making everyone hate him LOL but for real, the props and cinematography helps make this so immersive and I am nervous but cannot wait for the next episode. I hope you all enjoy :)

Lets start this new journey together :)

Glad to see you watching this at last, as a paratrooper it's almost required watching 🤣

Lee Aguera

Real question here. You joke about required watching, but when you were in the military was there actual required watching when it came to movies/shows/documentaries? Like some movie that got boot camp really accurately, and they wanted you to know what to expect?

Lich King

This makes me really really happy 😊

Lee, no there aren't any actually required ones outside of training films from the 80s lol. There's just ones that everyone makes fun of you for not seeing yet.

I will say that BOB is actually accurate when it comes to jumps.

I'm super exited to watch this one with you Vee! I've heard a lot of great things from this show, and I've been meaning to watch it sometime myself, so now's a perfect time to watch!

I watched this when it first came out and I own the DVD set so I've watched it a bunch since then. I already had an appreciation for what our troops did in WWII and this show was incredible. I hope you get as much out of it as I did. One added bit that I never really thought of but was mentioned by one of the vets interviewed in the documentary is that most of these guys had never even been in a plane before when they started training to jump out of them.

here. we. go. this show is one heck of a ride !

Looking forward to seeing your reaction to this awesome series! I’m a historian and WWII reenactor, and having watched several others react to this series there are often a lot of questions that come up about the show and the events in it. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, I’m sure there are lots of us here who are glad to share what we know!

I watch this every year because my grandfather was apart of D day. So this hits close to home for me. I will gladly go on this journey again with you Vee. PS. My fav WW2 plane was the P-51 Mustang.

You were talking about doing indoor skydiving. Static-line jumping is very different from skydiving. As you could see in the show, and the basic concept and mechanism hasn’t change a whole lot since 1943, you hook your static line to an anchor cable. The static line is connected to your chute so that when you jump, a combination of the aircraft’s movement and gravity pull the static line to deploy the chute. There is no balance or maneuver as you would have in skydiving because 1) the chute is automatically deployed within about 8 seconds of exiting the door, and 2) we don’t jump at altitudes where you could safely perform this maneuvers. If your main doesn’t deploy, you have about 10 seconds after exit to pull your reserve to ensure it properly inflates to safely control your descent.

Unrelated note: The last man of Easy Company, 506th PIR, Lieutenant Edward Shames, died the other day. Every man depicted in this series from E Co is now dead.

Love when Brothers make a band

I finished my basic training in late 1989 an went straight to Airborne school. It is just as fun as it is depicted here, probably more so. Best time I had was Tower Week, where jumps are simulated by yanking you up with a deployed chute waaaaay up, and then drop you. Jump week wasn't anywhere near as fun as that, because we'd run even more. When you exclaimed near the end "THE DOOR! ITS WIDE OPEN" I had to laugh at that, since I had a similar response on my first jump. Jumpmaster stood in the door and stuck his face outside, I thought he was absolutely crazy to do that, but no, he's eyeballing the drop zone. A few moments later, its stand up, hook up, shuffle to the door, and then I was the crazy one.

Bradford Freeman is still alive. Colonel Shames was the last living officer of Easy.

My favorite WWII era plane is the BEEEE-SEVEENTEEEN BAAAAWLMER

Love that you are going through this heavy but great series! Hope you mix it up with some light hearted stuff between episodes.

Bill didn't pick up the wrong jacket. The note was put in his jacket on purpose. That was how he decided to let Bill know about his brother.

Just saying once your done this series you HAVE to react to The Pacific Its the same as this series but shows the war against Japan

Texas Anla'Shok

Yes, those were C-47 Skytrains, and you have no idea how happy it made me you got that right.

I can only watch Band of Brothers on HBO Max and I notice that the speed of the episode is faster than Vickys copy so I have to keep pausing and playing to make them sync up. Any one know a good way to fix the issue?

Chris Lüders

Very nice review, Vee. 😉 I think you will love this series although there will be a few very realistic scenes. So take your time if it is too much. Somebody mentioned to alternate the episodes with something more light hearted and I think that's a very good proposal. 😊

Can't wait for more episodes.

I'm almost certain that the soldier who drank from his water bottle (the part where they empty them in formation) Christiansen, was none other than the young version of Magneto, Michael Fassbender.

Indeed it was! So many great actors got their start/boost from being in this series

Oh just wait and keep your eyes peeled. You might see a yet undiscovered Jimmy Fallon later on

After this series you should watch “taken” by Steven Spielberg as well. It’s about aliens and it’s super good!
