Btw, Netflix's dub is the old-school 80's dub where our resourceful Lupin III had to be "the Wolf" (after Arsene Lupin's author-estate briefly complained), but Lupin III's been a fixture of TV anime for fifty years. Miyazaki even directed early episodes of the first two series, (now streaming free on Crunchyroll), which's how he got the job: https://www.crunchyroll.com/lupin-the-third-part-2/episode-145-wings-of-death-albatross-685749

I will watch my UK DVD from "Manga Entertainment". It is my favourite Dub! :-) I remember when i imported once the Japanese DVD where they had this english "Wolf" Dub and i hated it so much :-D

The US Blu-ray from Discotek has the TMS "Wolf" dub, the correct Manga dub, AND a "family-friendly" dub, since more kids watch this as one of their first anime. :) And some fans think Zenigata sounded better in the Wolf dub.

In the early 1900's there was a popular series of novels about the adventures of a French Gentleman Thief named Lupin who left a calling card at the scene of his crimes. Lupin III is supposed to be the grandson of the original. The Lupin III manga, various TV series and movies are still popular. There was a 3D Animation 'Lupin III The First' last year which was quite good.

From my point of view, while it is a tame love story, the point wasn't for him to end up with the girl. You said it yourself that you felt it was weird how he was in love with her when in fact he met her as a child. While he did think she was a beautiful girl, and he was very charming and wooed her, I don't think he ever intended to be with her. As a thief he is always moving, he can't sit still. That is the nature of his character. That's how he is in the Manga and anime series. The count allowed for Lupin to get into the castle because he loved the game. The chase and the thrill. He also allowed for Zinegata to be there because he is a hard headed detective that can be easily handled. I tried to keep up with some questions you had, but I know at the end the planes flew over the castle and let out a bunch of officers/soldiers. That's what was parachuting out of the planes. It was Interpol finally sending officers out there now that they had proof of the conterfieting. The film I think is suppose to take place in a loose 70's era, which most of the art is taken from the style of the manga. But the gadgets and tech is all just "spy tech" that doesn't really need explatntion, just really cool and somehow just works.

Though I don't know how the situation is in other countries, Arsène Lupin and Sherlock Holmes books are very popular among Japanese grade school kids. I myself read many of them when I was a kid, and I think I read "La Comtesse de Cagliostro" (The Countess of Cagliostro), one of Lupin series, but I didn't remember the story at all. It is said that the novel inspired Miyazaki but it's not that The Castle of Cagliostro was based on the novel.

I had no idea Akira. :) Thank you for sharing!! I love these cute lil facts

Lupin was never "in love" with Clarisse or trying to "steal her heart"--On the show, Lupin is in love with Fujiko, and his partners, including Fujiko, know what a bad idea that is, but he can't help himself. ;) Lupin just wanted payback against the Count for the last time he tried to crack the castle, but when he saw Clarisse again all grown up, he wanted to give her hope as the "knight" who came to free the damsel to green fields. And no, Zenigata does not have "robots", he just has Japanese riot police--And, this being Miyazaki, endless hundreds of them.

Do you have any plans to make the old Ghibli reaction videos available through Patreon somehow? I think the editing was great and I'd hate to see all that work go to waste.

Why not apply mosaic processing instead of adding blur to the entire video?Of course I'm watching while playing the original copy, but I'm sorry I can't enjoy the video alone.

vkunia

Im sorry about that but I really only did it for this video as I do not trust Ghibli/Miyazaki movies anymore so this one is only off the countdown. If you notice in my other videos, I leave a little of the screen so you guys can stay in sync.

<3 I haven't thought about it yet but I will look into how i can make them available on another platform :)

There was an arcade game in the 80's called "cliff hanger". It was like Dragon's Iayer, but used parts of this cartoon and I think a different Lupin story.
