Four Laws continues to be the most commercially successful Burke series for me. After the success I plotted out 2 more story arcs. I'm currently in the middle of the 2nd story arc.

Sales continue to be strong on the series as a whole- it is overall more popular than Prism or Descend and definitely War God for Hire.

So, I'm just seeking some more input as to what people might think about whether I should extend it and do the 3rd story arc to take it to 10 books.

It's perfectly fine if you haven't read it or didn't like the series- I even put poll options for that.

Go as long as you have interesting stories to tell, enjoy writing them, and they are successful. The background mythology makes it seem like there is a lot of meat left on the bone

Well I guess I'm outvoted (I chose to end after the 2nd story arc). I've just gotten really annoyed in the past with authors who milk a more profitable storyline for a silly number of books until everyone is just sick of it. If you end at a more reasonable length, there's a good chance you'll pick up more readers for your other books and "followers" on Amazon/etc.

That is always my goal. I am only taking this input as one aspect of what I'm thinking about this. I have to enjoy writing it or it will suck. I have to be able to pay the bills while I'm writing it. Not everything has to be a great success but you get the point. And yeah- the entire reason that I first expanded it after the first 4 books was that I didn't feel like I had touched on many parts of the world that I wanted to.

This is an excellent point- and I would never want to be known as that author who drags on a story. I get some complaints because up until now the Burke books have ended with 5 books and a few complain that they wanted more. But my theory has always been that a good story has both a beginning and an ending. Then there is also the fact that it is better to go out at the top of your game so to speak... At the same time I've had more requests for this series than others and I can't completely ignore the business aspects- even if I really suck at that part of this game.

If it was wrung out, I would say so. Plenty of examples of that in both genre’s you write in where authors just milk the cash cow with name rec. Maybe it is there after the next arc but it doesn’t feel there right now. At least to me. Descend and War God both felt like they needed endings right when you ended them as they were kind of just shonen power fantasies. All due respect. Four Laws has more worldbuilding built in that feels ripe for exploration.

I'll say one big aspect that 4 laws suffer from would be power creep. I've also always heard that a good ending leaves you wanting just a little more sp while I voted for the ending after 2 arcs if you feel as an author that's you can keep the quality up great. As the books stand now I'm having trouble seeing it unless they are shorter books or get sidetracked. Overall write what you want and I look forward to reading them
