Blue Star Episode 3 Approaches Month 3 of Development - Progress Report, Why It's Taking So Damn Long, And How Long It Will Be (Patreon)

So as Blue Star Episode 3 quickly approaches its third month of development (I started Feb 26, and it’s April 24 now, meaning about 58 days of development have passed), I feel it’s pertinent to share with you all something I imagine you’ve already figured out:
I am terrible at projecting times.
Not just with development times (remember when Blue Star Episode 3 was going to take a month to build? Yeah, about that...), but with runtimes as well.
Before I continue, here’s a quick rundown of how terrible I am at projecting runtimes:
- Bounty Booty: Projected ~1 min, Actual 3:30
- Phazon Experiment: Projected ~1 min, Actual 3:30
- Nualia Debut: Projected ~45 sec, Actual 2:00
- Blue Star Ep1: Projected ~5 min, Actual 9:06
- Blue Star Ep2: Projected ~5 min, Actual 11:41
With that in mind, I have split the sex scene of Blue Star Episode 3 into three “acts” (an entirely internal structure, dictating how I sorted the drafts), with the third “act” logically split into “chapters”.
For those not aware, the way I decided to animate this sex scene was what I call “spaghetti animation” - basically, I just animate a ton of different sex animations (over 20, in this case, with more to be made), without any concern about details, position, length, or scene flow. Then, once I have a lot made, I piece them together to form a single flowing narrative.
I am currently stitching together the first act, and as of right now, I have 15 of 31 shots made for it. My initial estimates for Act 1 of the sex scene (and Ivan can vouch for me on this, since i told him this) were “between 90 and 180 seconds.”
If you take a look at the image I attached to this post, you’ll see the number “154.750″. That is the current runtime for Act 1. I projected, as an upper bound, 180 seconds for Act 1 - and I currently only have half the shots made, and it’s already over 154 seconds.
And just to quell any doubts that these only hyper-extensions of the spaghetti animations, without any variance at all to and between them, I did a quick computation of the animation work left in Act 1:
- Adding 2 spaghetti (or “old”) animations
- Adding 4 entirely and uniquely new animations
- Adding 4 transition animations
- Adding 1 variant to one of those added “old” animations.
So yeah.
I said in a previous post about Blue Star that I’m just going to stop giving projections as to when the episode will be completed. It will be done when it’s done.
I am going to tack onto that the following: I am going to stop trying to project run-time as well. So for those of you who keep asking “how long is it going to be” or, more specifically, “how long is the sex scene” going to be, you’ll find out when I do. All I can tell you for certainty is that the sex scene is going to be at least 157 seconds long.
Just thought I’d keep you all informed.
