I thins episode is good for what it is, but it's an episode of necessity. Nickelodeon slashed their budget and left them with two choices, cut corners (like doing a clip show) or keep on and not be able to give everyone a fair wage. At least they found some ways to make the clip show fun.

I view this episode as a necessary evil due to all of the behind-the-scenes factors that have come out. It definitely isn't as good as "Ember Island Players", or even some other clip shows I've seen which used them to advance the plot, but they did the best they could given the circumstances. I definitely love Mako's family dumping on his actions in the first two seasons, because they said a lot of what the fandom was saying when they first aired. I never revisit this episode on its own when I rewatch the series, but at least it's not actively unpleasant.

Oh, the clip show. I actually kind of enjoy Mako's recap for what it is - one of the few looks into his mind that we get this season. But hoo boy does the Korra/Asami segment feel ten times longer than it actually is. It's just two characters awkwardly talking about things they both already know, without providing anything new or adding anything interesting. That said, I unabashedly love Varrick's story at the end. As you mentioned, it's sort of a lesser version of "Ember Island Players," but I enjoy that Varrick being an actual filmmaker allows them to get *really* meta with some of the jokes. And the sequence where the villains from past seasons have a conference call about how to defeat Bolin is comedy gold.

Has Korra been bushed down in the schedule? I swear it was every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and by my calculations it's last episode should have been this week or next?

It was every Tuesday and Friday. But Nathanael can’t edit avatar at the same time while doing Korra twice a week.

I agree that this isnt a great recap episode but idc what anyone says I kinda love varricks story :D
