Zuko redirecting the lightning - I mean. Just. It's him rejecting his father's abuse and finally taking charge of his destiny, but it's also Uncle Iroh protecting him even though he isn't there with him 😭

I've been waiting for Zuko's character turn. As soon as you mentioned it in Book 1, I knew this day would be special. Getting kinda close to the end. By my math maybe 4 or 5 more posts, 3 or 4 weeks I think. Any idea what you'll watch next? Going straight into Legends of Kora, or taking a break for something? I have some suggestions if you ever do like a poll or something like that. Got some good episodes coming up Gal, you'll love 'em.

The story of Zukos mom is told in the Avatar the last Airbender graphic novels. Its called "The Search" Part 1 and Part 2. When this show is over, I hope u get the chance to read it and give your thoughts, its one of the best stories in the Avatar franchise imo.

Zuko confronting his father is my second favorite scene in the entire series. My favorite is yet to come, but also involves Zuko and is highly emotional as well.

One of the things I love about this show is it makes you question who the main character is. Is this a story about Aang, who over comes tremendous loss? Or is this story about a banished prince, sentenced to live life adrift away from everything he's ever known, unlearning everything he's been taught? *it's obviously both but one could argue it's one over the other

Just to give a breakdown of the air temples because it's hard to keep track! Southern air temple is where Aang lived with the monks and where they found Momo and Gyatso's skeleton. Northern is where the mechanist lived, eastern is where Appa was born and where Aang met him and where the Guru is. Western is where they're headed now and looking forward to your reaction to seeing it!

From a storytelling perspective, it is very interesting, because they couldn't have Aang have a big internal conflict where he has major setbacks and go evil for a time. The Avatar represents stability and balance and any major upset to that, would be a problem to the whole concept. So in order to craft a good story where these major things could happen to a person and where someone could actually face the horrors of war and know both sides, they almost made a second protagonist. (I would personally say that Zuko is fully one). They are two halves of a good protagonist, that allows us to both have a stable character that has very little change and we can all cheer for at all times, while have great and deep character growth with a lot of change from someone who has made the big mistakes and can learn from them. This show has SO many great elements in general, but I think that this duality of Zuko and Aang and how we *need* both to make one whole, is the thing that takes it a major step up compared to so many other shows.

You are absolutely correct. You can challenge Aang, but you can't have him break bad. Zuko gets to have the full spectrum of change and growth and I love that. The character building in this show is amazing!
