Remember to "correct" viewing order is: Watch season 2 up to episode 17: "The Captain's Hand" Razor (movie)

Ramy

Just a heads up since we’re at that point in the show now: if you watch Razor before it originally aired (between seasons 3 and 4) it will reveal a storyline from season four well before you should have it in your mind. So it also prematurely primes the way you’ll look at certain characters and consider certain plot points. Some folks prefer to watch it during season two–or between seasons 2 and three–partially because Pegasus will be fresh in your mind. I get it. For me though, that would have changed too much about the way I’d have approached parts of the show. The vibe of Razor is a hard turn away from the vibe of the show between seasons 2 and three.

Ray (Fanporium)

Are you planning to watch the 1970s BSG after you finish this series? It’s not what you would call “good” by today's standards. But it’s fascinating to see how they took mediocre plot lines from the original and morphed them into insanely good plot lines in this one. Plus, holding this Admiral Cain and the 1970s Lloyd Bridges (Airplane, Hot Shots) Commander Cain in your head at the same time is a fun thing to do to your brain.

This arc/storyline with Pegasus is my favorite in the whole show. I think it shows just how lucky Galactica is to have the people that it has (specifically Roslin and Adama). The way you treat your enemy defines who you are. It was a powerful piece of television 20 years in the wake of 9/11 and it's relevant again with Israel/Palestine and Russia/Ukraine. And I love Michelle Forbes in this role because I feel as though she represents a good chunk of military minded people in our world today - their mindset, their outlook. They are so incredibly dangerous.

Guess you didn't expect that the watching order and the "extended problem" is so complicated;) i send my dvd box to a friend, because he don't want to buy it but I wanted him to like the show. Now he loves the show and he don't want to give it back ;)) I could' t watch the full reaction today. Pity, but watch how you like to watch it :-) ... i do not even know if the german version of the box have the extended episodes inside (?)

I have to vote in favor of watching "Razor" after season 3 finishes. Although it fits chronologically in-between eps 17 and 18, there are some spoilers.

This episode was just amazing in the way it took the viewer through a full 180 in emotions toward the Pegasus. It's cool you commented on the music, as the opening track with the reveal of the Pegasus was simply unlike anything that had come before it in the series. I'm still unsure about the intended messaging behind the use of that track, but it definitely brings with it a sense of wonder and excitement. The way the Pegasus crew treated their prisoners is absolutely deplorable, and from Fisk's talk with Tigh we get the sense that the rot within the Pegasus started from the top down. Cain clearly is not willing to accept any form of dissent, executing her XO and replacing him with Fisk who we can assume from his actions struggles to be more than a yes-man to the Admiral's wishes. The role of the Executive Officer IS to challenge the commander when they make bad calls, as we have seen Tigh do on countless occasions. The way Cain disregards this role I feel is really telling. I don't really want to go much further into my thoughts on this episode as they'd likely spoil future ones so I'll just say that I am so keen to see the reactions to the next few episodes!

Hey Whiplash and Thumper are way better call signs than Kat, which is just shorthand for her name. If I was a pilot and they just called me Ron I'd feel cheated. Also I love Admiral Cain as a character, she has that "man I hate what she is saying but everything she is saying is correct" trait down pat. She should have been born in the 40k universe. What that LT did to Sharon was messed up because we like Sharon but no one on Pegasus has a connection to her, shes just another Cylon. The Cylons did wipe out humanity in a nuclear holocaust and that tends to take away any goodwill. Part of why I love this show is that it makes you look at things from all sides.

Ronald Foster

That is not the job of an XO. The XO of anything (be it a ship, or a division, battalion, ect) An XO is simply 2nd in command and while they are allowed to offer up different insight their primary job is to make sure the COs orders get carried out or take charge if the CO can no longer command. Plus in a time of war disobeying Cains legal order would fall under Mutiny or Sedition which is punishable by death. Cain is harsh but she is fair.

BSG the show that punches hard and hits home and really makes you think about the human race. Warts and all! It's written so well that it still keeps up with even current events and it makes me feel so many emotions with every episode. Yes this particular episode was a hard watch for me the first time and watching your reaction just made it hit me even harder. I commend the actors for their amazing talents and sacrifice they made for this episode. Re: the scene with 6 in the cell laying on the checker plate steel. She was bruised so bad laying there during filming and between takes. I tried to binge watch the series a while back and I couldn't do it because of the emotional response it produces. I was worn out emotionally and had to watch in small amounts with a day or 2 break in between. I love watching with you and your analysis of the show. Yeah you're right about how it's impossible to predict!

Scumhawk Hail Eris

The Pegasus crew does not see the cylons as human and deserving of human considerations. To them they are just a step up from a toaster. If you recall you yourself did not see any reason it was wrong that Boomer was shot and killed. Sadly every war that we degrade the humanity of the enemy seams to always lead to the cruelest and disgusting treatment. That scene was hard to watch and totally agree with your reaction.

William

LOL!!! 😂😂😂 I really feel for Angela. She probably was lulled into thinking the cliffhangers were over. She has no idea!!! 😄 They don't end until the LAST episode! 👍

Brian Melkowits

I have to tell you that Bear McCreary is a genius. I submitted a reaction request to a metal group called the Wolf Hunterz, who have never seen BSG before, of just the scene where the Pegasus arrives, and I encouraged them just to focus on the music. Their lead singer got choked up just from that one scene because of the music. McCreary uses a musical device called the plagal cadence (specifically, the minor plagal cadence) out the wazoo to help create the heightened emotional effect. Here’s the link that contains more of an explanation as well as their gobsmacked reaction; check it out: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P9yq74idfUs

Apologies if someone else has already said it, but I think "Sharon" was designed or programmed to have all of "Boomer"'s memories so that she could convince Helo she was the "real" Sharon when they first met on Caprica. If he brought up some detail in conversation that she should have known, and she had no memory of it, he probably would have become suspicious.
