Definitely Not! a kids show. Unpopular opinion, I don't blame Hama at all. I would have done worse with her power. Not to the people of a random village. They took the humanity out of her when they caged her, I for one didn't see a toilet. To learn the new bending skill, she had to see everything in a new way. She stopped seeing the rats as animals and only saw "Skin filled bags of water". As Uncle Iroh said to Zuko: " Water is the element of change. The people of the Water Tribes are capable of adapting to many things. They have a sense of community and love that holds them together through anything." That is what Hama is and she shows it. They took her community away and she adapted and became a blood bender. The Fire Nation is lucky that this is all she did. Someone with a strategic mind set could have quietly caused the entire Fire Nation to collapse. Having the power is one thing. Having the control to not use it is the hardest part. I believe there is always a possibility that something will cause someone to use such a power.

To your comment about bending wood because it also comes from the earth, it should be noted that metal metalbending doesn't actually bend the metal itself. Metalbending only bends the rock and mineral impurities, if the metal was completely pure she wouldn't be able to bend it theoretically

I think the brilliance of this episode is the foil to the Headband. That episode shows us that regular folks in the Fire Nation aren't all bad, and this episode shows us that Water Tribe people can be as bad as anyone.

I thought this was gonna be a fun spooky Halloween episode... this went DARK real quick 😬 How fitting you talking about condensation on your cup at the beginning lol. Do you really never get that usually? There's always condensation on cold drinks here, it's so annoying.

I've been wondering since S1 if the fact that people/animals/plants are mostly made of water was going to be mentioned, or if it was going to be too dark a subject to breach. Answer was more well done than I expected this late in the show. And do you really think they are going to drop this particular stone in the pond and never circle back to it? You mentioned "No wasted scenes..." at the beginning. I hope Toph doesn't learn Bone Bending. She's not known for her delicacy. Hama said she was the only one to survive. So all the others must have died from something or other before she managed to escape. Speaking of weird Bending. I still wonder about the Sand Benders. They seem like combination Earth and Air benders to me. Probably leaning more towards Air, as Toph was so blind and useless in the desert.

A detail I heard someone else point out a while ago that really stuck with me was how in the fight with Hama, early on there's a moment where Katara just strikes one of Hama's attacks out of the air with brute force, and you can see Hama shocked by it. What I didn't think about at first, was that Katara was acting more like an Earthbender in that moment, than a Waterbender. The signature Waterbender technique, like we see Hama using, is to continously bend your opponents movements around yourself, preserving the momentum and redirecting it at your opponent. Uncle Iroh points out early on how different bending styles can learn talents from each other, and I feel like it's a nice little moment that shows Katara has also been learning from Earthbending as well as Aang. Sometimes the best response to an attack is to meet it head on. You need a lot of strength and confidence to be able to do that, but Katara has that, and she's learned from Aang and Toph the value of a head on attack. Anywho, real emotional episode. So much going on here, really gets under your skin. I just thought that moment was neat, and I didn't think too much of it when I first saw it, and I think it's a neat idea to share.
