I was 100% SHOCKED! And I had to wait a long time to find out what happened. Zuko's breakthrough came at the hands of Uncle. He didn't make the choice for himself, so it wasn't a true change. So when he had to choose, he fell back on his practiced behaviours. The chakra episode was 1 of my favourite. But yeah, I'm keeping my attachments. Oh I didn't know your sister passed. Words can not express how sorry I am to hear of her passing. I have just has a passing in my family 2 weeks ago. I know from previous passings, it never leaves, I always think of them. I could never let go of them. I never understood that part of spirituality.

Crossroads of Destiny gives off big time Empire Strikes Back energy... it's such an AMAZING cliffhanger of a season finale ... Zuko's arch is unequivocally some of my favorite writing on any show and it's only enhanced by his actions in this episode!! Toph cracking the code on Metal bending is such a baller level up move and it's honestly in my top 3 favorite moments of the entire series!! I have truly loved re-watching this show with you and cannot wait to see how you react to Book 3!!!

Yes, Toph. All of Toph. I loved how it just wasn't shown, it was also narrated. Its almost like as Guru Pathik talks about connection, he also connects enough to see her, and cheers her on. "Metal comes from earth, its close enough. Come on, girl. You got this."

The avatar getting taken down like that shocked me to my core Weirdly Zuko’s choice hurt me more

Yeah, the ending here hits HARD. Even knowing that it's coming, it's still a gutpunch. The part which makes the most impact on me is the exchange where Katara says she thought Zuko had changed, and he calmly says that he has changed. For the first time in his life, Zuko made a choice. It may have been the wrong choice, but he MADE it. Not his father, not his uncle, not his sister. Him. Whoof. I'm not sure if you have started watching season three yet, but if you haven't, then I'll recommend watching "Escape from the Spirit World" first. This is an IN CANON series of short videos (Sometimes described as an "animated graphic novel") that were released online in between seasons two and three. They were originally interactive video games, but were re-edited into straight-story for later release. You won't miss out on any plot details by skipping this, but they offer great insight into some characters that you haven't seen a lot yet. It really helps flesh out the entire Avatar world. The whole thing is only 13 minutes long, so you could make it a little short video on its own, or make it the beginning of the first season three episode if you want.

Great reaction! Almost everything that could go wrong did go wrong (aside from the metalbending) in the these two episodes. Sometimes i wonder how things would have turned out if Sokka actually stopped to see "Suki" before leaving. But then we probably wouldn't have this great finale. I'm also glad you're watching Korra too. It has its flaws but its a good show too imo

Yeah this episode hits like a truck. I was as shocked as Aang was, when Azula shot him mid-powerup-animation. That being said, I feel like a lot of the talk about attachment in both this and Star Wars doesn't spend enough effort clarifying that the point isn't (or at least shouldn't be IMO) having a lack of things you care about in the world, but rather cutting yourself off of the fear of losing those things. Caring about something I think is a core good in the world. But the fear of losing those things can drive people to terrible ends. Anakin being a great example. In the Clone Wars, a lot of his attachments to the soldiers under him, and the people around him, inspired him to push further to do great things. But those same attachments became anchors that dragged him down because of his fear of loss. I like to think the real lesson is to accept the things we love in this world are finite, and that one way or another our time with them will come to an end. Accept that limited time, and then be grateful for the time we do have, and do not let ourselves be poisoned by the very things that gave us purpose.

Wait, you understand Zuko's choice? Please share. I haven't got a clue why he betrayed everyone that actually matters and cares about him. I didn't know what was going to happen when Aang went full Avatar, I knew he couldn't die, but it didn't seem like he could win either. I'm just glad Iroh's stand wasn't his last.

I wasn’t surprised by Zuko at all. It all felt too easy with the cheerfulness. I hopped he might choose differently, but I knew he wouldn’t. Aang getting struck by lightning was devastating. I did not see that coming. I always thought that Iroh had already been voiced by another actor. He just sounded off to me, but maybe that was just because of Mako’s health or something. I don’t know.

Learned a new word today, copacetic. 'Copacetic is an adjective with a range of positive meanings including “fine,” “very satisfactory,” and “excellent.”' Thanks Angela! They really went heavy with the cliff hangers this season and this finale is no exception 😬 Looking forward to season 3!
