I'm really looking forward to seeing the BSG reactions after we wrap up Firefly. I think it will make for a really interesting comparison.

Strangely, this episode was my introduction to Firefly. I had heard about the show, but due to lack of marketing I didn't know anything about it, and it wasn't on my must-see list. My buddy had me watch this one episode for the sole purpose of showing me Jubal Early, and I was hooked. That was a villain/antagonist done right. Absolutely menacing, almost immediately hateable (for callously threatening Kaylee), but flawed so he didn't seem unreal. It's also my fervent belief that the oddities he was portraying were River's fledgling attempts to push her mind outward instead of everything just pushing in on her. I think her rummaging around in Jubal's mind trying to find out things she could use were causing small short-circuits in his thought processes. There is no way someone that successful could have done so with the mental tics he kept exhibiting while he was on the ship.

I don't normally post on anything, but had to finally comment on the episode order since it's been mentioned a lot in the videos. I was actually one of the 5 people that watched the show when it originally ran and the IMDB timeline is all messed up. The show aired with a 2 episode premier of episode 1 and 2. The pilot was not aired last. I think the IMDB entry is messed up because the pilot started an hour early and episode 2 aired right after, in what would become it's normal time-slot. They did switch the order of the next few episodes, probably to bring character development earlier, but not too much. I don't remember the specific order, just that it didn't match the DVD release. The episodes, "Trash" and "The Message" never aired during it's first run and were premiered on the first DVD set. The final episode to air was "Objects in Space".

End-of-series trivia question: In which episode does River, played by Summer Glau, have NO speaking lines at all? I would like if Angela answered first but I'm like 2 weeks late with this so she might not even see it... (?)
