FULL LENGTH REACTION

I joined your Patreon just a few day ago but, i just want to thank you for these reactions. They have been really healing for me in ways i didn't see coming. Kinda like this show.

This episode affected me deeply, so many times. First, kudos to the actress who played Ted’s mom. She did her homework. The intersection of Beard and Nate’s stories was great writing. Brand new ground, never would have guessed they would take the story in that direction, but it made sense. Finally, we see Ted calling in a favor from Beard and I wonder, is that the only time he played that card in their entire friendship? I think it was.

I'm SO glad we got to see Jamie's mom! From his anecdotes we could infer she was a loving parent, but to see him go full mama's boy and for her to be incredibly uplifting for him was just beautiful. Really makes that speech of his in 1x06 hit harder. Also I loved that his stepdad is so kind and Ted-like. After James, she deserves someone like that. I wish they hadn't played Jamie's depression and anxiety in the beginning of the episode for comedy, but I suspect a big reason why was because this was clearly Phil's Emmy submission and they wanted to cover all the bases to give him his best shot rather than have his role be all drama. I'm sure he and Brett had an absolute BLAST filming that boot room scene 😂

This bothered me a little too and, while I’m sure you’re right about the Emmy reel, a couple things popped out at me when I watched it again. First, we’re not used to seeing this kind of anxiety from the uber-confident Jamie. Yes, we saw him break down in Man City. But that was a very different situation coming after the confrontation with his father. So the juxtaposition makes us uncomfortable and we laugh. That’s a very human reaction and it’s one that we (the audience) have, not the characters. They recognize the seriousness and act accordingly. Secondly, we have to remember that Jamie is (or at least has been) very conscious of appearances. But, in this moment, he doesn’t care about his brand. He doesn’t care how silly he looks. He’s not afraid Roy will laugh at him. He’s just raw. That is real growth. Plus, let’s be honest, we often look back at our weakest moments and laugh. I know I do. Something can be tragic in the moment and absolutely hilarious later. Actually, being able to laugh at ourselves helps us grow because it makes it less painful. If hurts too much, we don’t want to touch it and we have to if we want to change.

I don't look back at my weakest moments and laugh, and I don't think the many traumas that caused Jamie's breakdowns are funny either. I'm glad the parts with his mom and press conference were played straight, I just think the boot room and hotel room scenes should have been as well. There can be some comedy to lighten it a bit, such as the conditioner and impotence lines, but to go as far as they did felt wrong to me. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

I can absolutely understand that. It wouldn’t be any fun if we all just agreed.

Ted's abandonment issues, and being scared to get too close because they will leave hits way too close to home.

I absolutely loved the way they had Ted help Jamie overcome his inner demons with his dad and at the same time Jamie helped Ted figure out what to say to his mom so he could speak his mind and get that weight off his shoulders, beautiful writing. I also very much enjoyed the other characters channeling their inner Roy Kent 😂. That man sure can drop an F bomb like nobody's business.

This episode made me really wish my mom didn't live 1,000 miles away. Would love to give her a hug right now. I loved getting details about how Ted and Beard know each other and the lengths that Ted went for Beard in the past. That moment where Beard told the story to Nate was beautiful. Also, Jade is better than freaking Batman with how quickly she can disappear! Onwards to the finale!

When Nate says “I love spending time with my girlfriend.” Jade disappears. Nate immediately looks for her by looking up. 😂 Such an emotional episode, beautifully written & acted. I thought Jamie’s Dad had died, but then to see his Dad in what appears to be rehab, & hopefully moving towards a better life. That hit hard for the 2nd time watching along with your reaction. 😭 Beard forgiving Nate. Showing a grace that once was given to him. And a very Zava-esque head to head followed by the best hug. Fav Science Ted line “What is time Higgs Boson?”~Ted to Higgins

It's blink-and-you-miss-it in the credits, but the poem Mae recites is "This Be the Verse" by Philip Larkin: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/48419/this-be-the-verse

…Nods and Tears… This penultimate reaction gives us all a special kind of knowing nod and soft heart-felt tears that reminds us that Angela is like River Tam, she feels everything. The slight nodding with tears running down her cheeks at Ted finally finishing his solemn purpose of helping his players be the best version of themselves on and off the pitch - to be great men (finishing with Jamie) - then realizing Ted's purpose spilled over with her second nod at Jamie's father in rehab - brilliant. For me, I shared my own emotions in Mom City with Angela. I cried for Ted forgiving his mom... I cried for Jamie forgiving his dad… I cried for Beard forgiving Nate... I hate this show... because at the end, I cried once more... for me... because this show is ending. Ted Lasso is a rare treasure that finds universal human failings and fills them with hopeful inspiration. This episode reminds us of that even as all our parent relationships hold some special challenge for us those relationships are our foundation for growth. Hence, the power and truth of.. "They fuck you up, your Mom and Dad... They may not mean to, but they do... They fill you with the faults they had... and add some extra, just for you... They were fucked up in their turn... By fools in old style hats and coats... Who at the time were soppy-stern and half at one another's throats... Man hands on misery to man... It deepens like a coastal shelf... Get out as early as you can... and don't have any kids yourself." ~ Mae Bee's poignant poem - part of Philip Larkin's "This Be The Verse" Thank You funnylilgal for your nods and your tears!

The man city episode was at Wembley , so this is his first time back at their home ground in Manchester where he is from

I think Beard knows Ted would only play that card if he felt it was absolutely necessary. I loved that so much. Beard yells at Ted about winning, won't talk to him when Ted won't bench Roy and Ted never retaliates or gets upset about it. Ted calming reminding Beard about second chances was SO TED.

I hated Jamie's dad so much. I've dealt with alcoholics in relationships and it was very triggering for me. None of those people sought help and his dad did! I was so proud of him but so happy for Jamie. "Higgs Boson" is such an underrated line. There are so many, I get that it got missed, but it's SO GOOD. Nate looking up because someone disappeared is so NATE.

I’m sorry you’ve experienced that. I can’t imagine how difficult it must have been. I’m glad you know your worth. Never settle for less than you deserve.

This is hands down in my top 3 of favorite episodes of this show... if Phil Dunster doesn't get an Emmy (or at LEAST a nomination) this season it will be a friggin crime against the craft of acting!!

funnylilgalreacts

I wasn't impressed with his comedic acting int his episode. I felt like the crying was over the top. I wish he won for Man City, that was phenomenal.

I think this may actually be my favorite episode. Certainly of Season 3 but maybe even the whole show. Ted finally heals his family including his mom who has been struggling on the outside this whole time. He seals his commitment to Henry. I remember (as a mom in this case) being floored by Dottie's advice about parenting to Ted. " Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose but most of the time you just tie. what is most important is to keep playing". Well tape that onto my mirror for daily review! And that directly goes back to "futbol is life!" by Dani Rojas. Such beautiful writing. I will truly love this show forever!!
