FULL LENGTH REACTION

A while ago I was hearing some criticisms about ted lasso being an example of toxic positivity. I never bought into that at all but one of the things I really appreciate about this show is it is one of the only shows I have ever seen that gives us examples of positive masculinity. From ever guy on this show except for Rupert(who is just a bad human being), it is just over and over different amazing examples of what it means to be a man. The discourse on the release of stolen pictures is a perfect example of it. Not only are the characters examples for the audience to follow but they are examples for each other to follow. I really appreciate that.

Great reaction. I agree about Nate. I feel for him more than anything. When he does bad stuff it's disappointing rather than anything else. I also really like Jade. That "blankness" she has seems to me like she just won't give anything emotionally to those who are not worthy of it. That she has decided Nate is worthy, I love for both of them. She sees the best in him and I hope he lives up to that.

I think it does a very fair job showing all sides of a person. Yes Ted is super optimistic and cheesy, but he's also an alcoholic and broken. People will single out the happy guy behavior and think that sums up the man.

Yes! I was so worried he was going to try to wear her down and finally get her to talk to him. Instead she saw the real Nate and wanted to open up to that guy.

You trying to drink from an empty glass! 🤣 Been there. Mercy buckets FLG! I love Nate and Jade together. She’s good for him. When they started talking and enjoying each other’s company I said “Good, this will help him.” I’ve been rooting for him. Yep, you hurt Keeley we riot. Maybe Beard and Jane can try that on International Women’s Day like Wade and Vanessa in DP. Seeing Jake and Michelle across from Ted made me immediately angry. I don’t know how Ted does it. Jamie is one of my favorites. He’s grown so much. Roy has been trained well in Lassoism, enough to take over if Ted leaves.

That moment when Sam breaks down and runs into his father's arms,. look at Ola's face in that moment. It's not embarrassment or confusion, he's looking to see who hurt his little boy. Show me who I need to protect you from. I know that look. I’ve seen it on my father’s face. I’ve worn it on my own…and it breaks my heart. So much of this show is about positive masculinity and trying to find it within yourself and, I’ll tell ya, it ain’t easy. But this show isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being better. Don’t fight back. Fight forward. I’ll try, sir. I promise.

I hope Nate is truly on a path to a more balanced version of his self worth, but I am worried that he will stumble. Fingers crossed that he has the confidence to pull it off. Having a partner who will support you, but not blindly and will tell you when there’s something wrong. It helps stabilize and center one’s perspective. In terms of Ted, if the show is going to end with this season, his job is done based on the players now trusting each other and have a better understanding of what they each need to do to support the team as a whole. The contrast of that vs the one man show that was “AFC Richmond, brought to you by Zava” is startling, or the Jamie Tartt show from the first season. Jack and Keeley. It seems to me that they are also doing another contrast here, Keeley now vs Keeley at the start of the show before all the personal growth. Jack reminds me of Keeley from season one, doing the big, flashy thing, getting attention or making people aware that she is there. What Keeley needed was for someone to be there for her and hold her hand, and to listen.

I love Nate, which means I have often been very frustrated with him. Every time he does a shitty thing, it sucks because you know he could and should do so much better. I'm glad to see his softer, nicer side coming out in the recent episodes. The fact that Sam named his restaurant after his father was so wholesome! The actor they cast to play Ola was perfect. He made the absolute most of fairly limited screen time. I love that Ted Lasso allows its characters to evolve and grow as the show goes on. It makes the characters more endearing, more realistic, and more interesting than if everyone remained exactly the same for three seasons. There's nothing wrong with shows that don't do that, but those shows don't stick with me the same way that shows like Ted Lasso do.

My only problem with Nate is that I feel like they rushed his redemption arc.

I bet Michelle and Jacob where having an affair before her and Ted broke up. Screw em both

I think one of the things about this series is the obvious love that is poured into every detail. It feels like everyone working on this show just loves what they are creating. The callbacks, the puns, the setups for the jokes, the music, the editing, the actors, the sets... it just all feels done with such attention to detail. Like Frank said in episode 3: "Paying attention to things... it's how we show love." This entire crew obviously pays attention to each other and to the details. This doesn't feel like a group of people just going through the motions.

Have fun in Amsterdam! It’s worth noting that Brendan Hunt (aka Coach Beard) said about Sunflowers “It’s set in Amsterdam, the city without which this show would not exist…I think you’ll find that it doesn’t suck.” Hunt apparently spent several formative years in Amsterdam, learned to love soccer there…and Piggy Stardust is based on actual events. For me, Paris wasn’t about engagement. I wasn’t there without someone I loved (at least, not at first)…but Paris was what opened my mind to think about being creative in life. I did a semester abroad there. I miss the young, innocent kid that I was when I was there. I love Nate’s arc…I think it’s an important one in television. People need to learn how to forgive. It’s easy to forgive someone (real or fictional) when you were not a witness to their misdeeds. We had to see Nate’s misdeeds to try and tell a true story that I was hoping would end in forgiveness. One thing I just want to point out: Keeley co-wrote “We’ll Never Have Paris”, with the photo leak. Not Juno Temple…but Keeley Hazell. Hazell is the person that is likely much of the basis of the fictional Keeley. She was a topless model in London and grew up in that sort of lifestyle…You also know Hazell because she plays Bex here in Ted Lasso. She became a staff writer in season 3, and this episode she shares the writing credit. So when I watched this episode, it felt like it was personal…and after learning that, that seems to be why. Good for her, for everything she’s doing now.
