Firefly 1x7 FULL LENGTH Reaction (Hulu Version) | Jaynestown

FULL LENGTH REACTION

Another react personality had noted, when she was watching this series, that there does seem to be a gentle trend to the episodes where one will be more lighthearted and the next... less so.

That Jayne song is what I‘ll always remember first about this show after all these years. There are many more profound and better parts in the show but I fondly remember being so surprised that I laughed out as loud and hard as don‘t often do when I watch a show. Wash‘s line of „We got to go to the crappy town where I‘m a hero!“ then literally killed me. Too bad we lost that show so soon. Peak Joss Wheadon that would be equal to Buffy and Angel had it been given more time. If only streaming had been around to pick it up and save it!

I have been watching these on Amazon, and the Firefly episodes there have the intros as well. I'm pretty sure the intros were the result of Fox airing them out of order and then trying to slap something on there to explain what the show was about. They don't really matter as much when watching the show in proper order, so I'm guessing that might be why some platforms dropped the intros. Jaynestown may not be my favorite episode of the show, but it is still a lot of fun. I'm pretty sure my reaction the first time I heard the folk hero song about Jayne was just a big ol' "I don't know what is going on but it is ridiculous" goofy grin and lots of laughing. At this point I can sing along whenever re-watching the episode. Ever since you started reacting to Firefly, one of the moments I think we were all waiting for is to see how you'd react when the song starts playing in this episode. The wide open-mouthed grin plastered on your face when the song started all the way through to your huge laugh at Wash's "we gotta go to the crappy town where I'm a hero" punchline at the end of the song is my new favorite part of your Firefly reactions so far. To use a word that I just realized I've been using much more often ever since I started watching your videos: delightful!

I fully agree that this episode is fantastic, but it is not my favorite. It was full of belly, laughs and surprises in delights. He didn’t have that normal panache that Firefly does. But I enjoyed it nonetheless! It was… Delightful 🖤

“Let’s trade my favorite gun for your wife.” Sounds like people I’ve met in Montana 😏 “I’m not anti hat. Just don’t look stupid when you wear them.” Ha ha ha! 🤦‍♂️ I always like when Jayne whimpers after tearing the tape off his hairiness. And apparently you did too. 🤣 Greta laugh! Love Book’s Sideshow Bob hair! Apparently Noah’s Ark was a Tardis(bigger on the inside). Out of Gas is special. How the Family came together. My favorite episode 🤓followed by Objects In Space the final ep. Looking forward to your reactions to them and the rest. And the Razorback shirt, one of my favorite workout shirts 👍

Andrew Howard

I really love this episode. It does such a great job of expanding on Jayne's character. It makes him more sympathetic and complex, but without contradicting anything we've seen from Jayne so far. He's not very intellectual, he doesn't seem to be very deep, he comes off as a meat-headed thug with nothing but himself on his own mind. But seeing everyone else in the town see so much in him, how much something he did (even if accidentally) made a difference in their lives, and a part of him peels away. The line where he says "you think we should be using my fame to hookwink folks?" and seems so earnest, really drives home and shows that there's more to him than the thuggish mercenary face he puts on the rest of the time. A part of him cares, even if it's a bit buried. And it doesn't hurt that this episode is a riot to watch. Seeing Simon and Wash reacting in surprise every time Jayne's legend ramps up in intensity is a delight. Even seeing Zoe's reaction when Mal mentions throwing a "Jayne Day celebration" is priceless. A really fun episode, that also brings a surprising amount of humanity to the person on the crew you'd least expect it from. Loved the reaction, it's always great to see someone's reaction the moment "The man they call Jayne!" starts being sung. Lots of great takes on everything going on, always a delight to see someone finding joy in a new show like this.

I really liked this episode for River, it feels like her mental issues stop her from ever feeling in control of herself so she tried to impose order on the text in the bible to feel normal, then the hair burst that feeling! Sending her into a bit of a spiral. I like it shows she has days where she isn’t just doing random things, she is trying to get better to feel normal.

More surprises and expectations subverted coming soon! The next few episodes are fantastic and fun. A couple heavy hitters are on the way too. I can't wait to see your reactions. I've watched others react to these shows, but it's more fun watching people more expressive.

River's rambling about the Bible's inconsistency is still one of my favorite scenes. :-) And my favorite line "I tore these out of your symbol, and they turned into paper." I don't know why, but that statement's always made me laugh. In the end, I like Book's perspective on faith. You don't really get the full picture of it until you get through the movie. What you see this episode is a bit cringey and cliche (and this coming from a guy who's on board with that little book . . . ) but Shepherd Book is honestly one of my favorite characters, if you read between the lines. I really do wish we'd had more time to see him developed more . . . I think it would have been fun. And all the crew members of Serenity, TBH. Glad you're going through this series! As always, thanks for the reactions!

I think the reason they aren't doing more with Mal / Inarra is they don't want to have too much romance going at once. Kaylee/Simon get their shot instead.

Oh my gods! Did you just call Miller's hat a fedora?!? I'm offended. Indiana Jones wore a fedora. Miller wore a trilby. Great reaction as always. This is my new favourite episode. This is the first time watching you that I've had to wait for the next episode. I hope I survive until it comes out.

Haha I think that's a common mistake among people who don't know much about hats. The trilby does look like a more narrow-brimmed fedora so it's an understandable mistake.
