I generally consider Daemon to be a conniving shit bag but I actually felt sorry for him in this episode And in the face of saving the baby or his wife I feel he would have favoured her, maybe I am just being hopeful. I think her death is gonna propel him back home though

I didn't really look much into the show outside of just watching the episodes. So I was taken off guard when this episode started. I immediately missed the younger actors for Rhaenyra and Alicent and it took me a couple episodes to get used to the older versions of the characters. I also found it a bit weird that the show is somewhat inconsistent with which characters age and which ones don't. Some characters get recast with older actors like Rhaenyra and Alicent. Some visibly age/degrade like the king. And some look exactly the same age after the 10 year time jump like Daemon and Criston. Then there are all the new child characters who show up in this episode. I found it a lot to keep track of and had a little difficulty remembering who was who for a while. Hot D certainly keeps you on your toes.

I mean, I’m no doctor, but isn’t the woman in these situations basically dead anyway with the medical procedures available? I always took the choice to be either “let them both die” or “kill the woman while trying to save the baby” Not a great choice either way.

I've watched the series through a couple of times now, and their choices on recasting do make a little sense to me now at least: any character that was an adult when the show started was not recast. Some of them (who were somewhat older already in episode 1) are being "aged" considerably more with makeup, like Viserys and Lyonel Strong, while the younger adults like Daemon and Criston have the opposite going on: Matt Smith clearly had quite a bit of makeup on in the first two episodes to cover any wrinkles and make his face look younger than he is, and now he does not and you can see his crow's feet around his eyes much more prominently. The effect is the most subtle with these younger adult characters because that period of time (25-40ish) is when humans physically change the least with age anyway, so not much needs to be done to them. Viserys obviously has other issues contributing to his degradation as well, which is why they go SO hard with his makeup in this episode, lol, but it looks great.
