I just think Amber sucks because she says she wants a healthy relationship but she was every bit as manipulative and dishonest as Mark was. I'd argue worse, because it's not Mark's place to share Omni-Man's secret identity with another person, nor Atom Eve's, nor anybody else's. And if somebody knows that Mark is Invincible, then it's not that hard to piece together that when Invincible calls Omin-Man "dad", that Nolan is Omni-Man. Or to figure out that Mark's redheaded female friend Eve might also be Invincible's redheaded female friend Atom Eve. Mark was right to keep his secret from a chick he'd been dating for less than 5 goddamn months, and she was being completely unreasonable in thinking that that was enough time that he should've come clean. If she truly wanted a healthy relationship, then instead of being manipulative and calling Mark a coward for "running away", maybe she could've just been honest? I don't know where she gets off getting mad at him when she was being every bit as dishonest as he was; I don't know why it's 100% his responsibility to help build a healthy relationship and 0% hers. Mark was unconscious in the hospital for 6 days; it's a miracle he didn't get brain-damaged. But she didn't give a shit about that. Honestly, if she'd've been honest with Mark and let him know she knew he was Invincible at the college, then Mark probably would've helped Rick and Rick probably isn't turned into a cyborg. But Amber wanted to play games and make Mark feel like shit, make Mark jealous, so Mark was too busy with that instead of helping out William and Rick. Mark's not blameless, I've said that before. But at least he had a valid reason for wanting to keep his - and everybody else's - secret identity secret. Amber's reason is simply that she wanted to test Mark. That's manipulative bullshit. That was really my takeaway from this episode. Prior to this ep, I was definitely frustrated with Mark not making a choice; I get not telling Amber, but I think... accepting that their relationship wasn't meant to be would've been the right choice, but *at least* he could've given better excuses. He could've told some of the truth, let her know that his dad was being overbearing and demanding he (Mark) fulfill responsibilities at home, and that his dad was giving him more and more responsibilities, you know? That's the truth, just not, you know... specific. But once she revealed that she knew, that she'd known for weeks, I just lost all sympathy for her point of view. She had no reason to not tell him that she knew except for wanting to jerk him around and test him.

That really overshadowed just about everything else for me in this ep. Robot's story is pretty interesting, of course. This ep bringing things to a head was interesting and satisfying. But I'm not sure I have anything interesting to say about it. Rex definitely hinted at a pretty shitty childhood, both with the "we're not some children you can leave in the car while you go get cigarettes" as well as telling Robot "you're ruining my childhood and that's pretty tough because it was already pretty shitty." I definitely think they'll try to redeem him, or at least make him much more sympathetic and likeable. We'll see. I think it's very possible he can bring something important to the team, to the show, that makes it better and more interesting, even if he's not a guy you'd want to date, or a guy you'd want your sister dating. I don't think I like him BUT the voice actor who plays him is impossible to not like; it's hard for me to separate the character from the actor playing him. I don't know if I can like him, but I'm interested to see how his character evolves going forward, I guess. I honestly think I "like" all of the new Guardians of the Globe. At least, I think they're all interesting; I like them as characters on a tv show. Except Shrinking Rae, I suppose; she hasn't done anything meaningful that I can remember. I remember her auditioning for the GotG but that's really it. I wish they'd've kept Sylar voicing Rudy. I wonder if he's just gone from the show, or what. I mostly disagree with William's critique of Mark, I think. But while I think he's wrong (or at least, wrong-ish), it's a valid argument. I appreciate that he said it; even if Mark ultimately disagrees, it's definitely something he needs to think about. And I really like Mark and Eve's relationship. I think I want them to be romantically involved, but I'm not sure if that would work right now; they both seem to be in a place where they're still figuring shit out. Maybe they could do it together... but while Eve seems to have her shit together much more than Mark - in fairness, she's been doing it for a long time, whereas Mark only just got his powers - but even she, like Mark, is dealing with a recent breakup, so... I want to see their friendship grow. And if that eventually leads to a romantic relationship, I'm all for it. Eventually. And I guess my final thought is: I don't think Mark is really "pouting" when he's not wanting to get involved at the end there, when Atom Eve says they should go find out what's up. He, for legitimate reasons, must feel like every time he tries to help, he only fucks things up. He's still very new to this, he's still trying to figure out who he is as a superhero, and how to use his powers to help people. He's not just feeling sorry for himself because his secret identity drove a wedge between him and Amber; he also screwed up on Mars, and at the campus (not helping Rick), and with Titan (by agreeing to help Titan)... it's understandable for him to wonder if, despite having powers, maybe he's not cut out for being a superhero, if he's in over his head. Because, I mean... he is. Nobody is good at anything their first try at it, it takes practice. I think that is where Mark and Eve's friendship really shines: they can be emotionally honest with each other, and supportive.
