A little late to the party on this series so not too worried about spoilers as you have already reacted to the future episodes. I'm just binging The Expanse while waiting for the next BSG episode. But Chrisjen Avasarala was not being metaphoric with her grandson. She was being just as real as her grandson. The belt sits at the top of the gravity well compared to Earth. throwing rocks (asteroids) is a deadly thing. Sir Issac Newton is the deadliest Somebitch in the galaxy.

CQB is the episode that is the 'hook' for many viewers.... One of the great things about the show is that there are no outright mustache twirling villians. Lopez is a good example. Ep.3 you think he's this big villian, but in this episode you see his point of view. One might not agree with that point of view, but one can understand it. Fun fact. The expanse started out as a table top role playing game, before they turned it into the novels. One of the players got a job in a new city, and had to leave the game.... His character was Shed :D

Like you, I was interested in the show from the beginning, but not really "hooked" at first (at least till this episode). A lot of us have commented that, as you get deeper into the show, the more you realize there was nothing "slow" about S1 at all. If you have a chance to rewatch it when you're done, you'll see how many plot seeds are being planted for things that happen in S5 & S6, even right from S1.E1. Every time I rewatch it (and I've done that at least a dozen times, I always find something I missed on previous viewings. This show is so well crafted, it's simply amazing.

I definitely find my self sympathizing for characters and then hating them the next episode. Anderson Dawes is a great example of someone I hate, but is also not entirely bad.

I’ve said to my editor a few times these past few episodes (I’ve watched up till 7 so far) “if season 1 is “slow”, what the hell are the other seasons going to be like????” Season one starts out slow but it isn’t slow after ep 4!

Yes, I do not play the audio either. I have the episode go black and white and silent so you can sync to it, but I can’t play the full thing. Maybe I could technically, but I get nervous about copyright problems.

Show at this point will slow down again some to build more of what's going on. But come Episode 8 you'll be back in for a serious ride from that point forward with little letting off the gas pedal. Most don't have attachments to the characters by this point but by Season's end or next at most you'll definitely be attached to the crew and the show!

Yeah, CQB, where so many Expanse fans are born. I see in the comments you've watched up to 7, so you're about to get to another of my favorite scenes and one of those wtf Expanse endings that we all love.

That whole Lopez-Holden conversation on the command deck tells us a bit about the Mars/Earth dynamic, which we will see more of down the road a bit. For now, enjoy as the mystery unfolds, little by little and the show - ahem - expands in scope and stakes.
