Yeessss just in time for my lunch!

Albert Wesker

Nice Timing, I just finished my Lunch and I have got some snacks to watch the Newest Doctor Who Episode.

Merkavar

Nice, 11pm just home from work and get to relax watching this

Darren Withers

I've heard David and Catherine were good friends well before this, so this episode was a real treat for the two of them to do.

Sean

Parting with a companion or Doctor can be rough. You just need to be optimistic, hopeful, and excited for who comes next.

Some0neElse

Donna Noble is my favorite Doctor Who character

Eefa

Was so happy you enjoyed this more than I expected, a lot of reactors are taken aback by how different of a personality Donna has VS Rose, and write her off as rude/annoying… But of course, it’s a very appropriate reaction, considering she thinks she was kidnapped from her wedding by an alien! Chaotic day! I, too, would’ve gone with the Doctor, but we have to remember that *not everyone would* and it’s nice to see another (maybe more realistic?) reaction to the invitation to the TARDIS. Catherine Tate is a beloved British comic, and a bit of levity was definitely needed after that bittersweet S2 finale. Getting used to new companions has never been difficult for me personally, but that’s probably because I adore pretty much every NuWho companion so far😁 You will mourn what was, but when you know you’ve just got OTHER GOOD STUFF coming, it’s easier to transition for sure!

Nate Hammer

I have watched these episodes of Doctor Who many times. Watching Angela reacting to them for the first time as been an absolute delight. I am along for the ride too the end. Martha Jones is on my top five list of companions. IU have been watching Who since the 1980s, it is always an adjustment when new ongoing characters come in to the Tardis.

Raymond Taylor

Omg seeing you cheer Donna 😄

Jeremy B

Looking forward to watching your reaction to this one! Remember people, no spoilers about future episodes please! :)

Sorcerer Rumburak

So - everything I could say to this episode and reaction includes spoilers. So I say: "wo blo kro to sho tro no to kro lo sho yo plo tro sho mo flo flo to sho do plo co to plo ro sho do plo no no blo sco" So - this spoiler is out - In hope you do not speak that language! Do not try to decode it.😉

Gambit3838

I so love the bride. She one of my favorite oddball English actresses. Lol

SweetCandle

If I got married on a holiday, I think it would be September 19. Talk Like A Pirate Day. Would make for a very interesting ceremony.

Andre Dontsch

Believe me, you will LOVE Dona later.....

John Williams

Whoa. Wait. That woman is in a costume?

Anders Thomsen

You're still a companion even if you're only there for one episode, Angela, so yes she was the new companion.

John Williams

Funny you called Harriet Jones, Martha Jones.

Anders Thomsen

One of the "advantages" of the the changing actors is that 1) The show doesn't end when they don't want or can't do it anymore 2) The salary of the leads doesn't reach levels where the show becomes too expensive to produce

Granger Hermion

Please stop talking about anything beyond the current episode. Angela has asked over and over for NO SPOILERS.

brad

catherine tate is brilliant. this special episode was a lovely surprise, i very enjoyed her as the doctor’s companion for the special. she plays an angry british woman brilliantly, i love her in everything she’s in

Nate Hammer

She said in the video she knows of Martha Jones. So I didn't give any spoilers

matt

For those of us who watched the show as it aired, it was never a surprise when a Doctor or a companion left the show. There was always an announcement that "This will be ...........'s last season." Then they would hold a press conference a couple of months later introducing the replacement.

dwp

I don't know patreon well, but if there was a way you could get a moderator for comments to avoid stuff like this. Some people just don't understand the basic rule of no spoilers!!

Michele Jean

Angela, a note to also consider is Catherine Tate and David Tennent were friends before the taping of this special. So anyone who really enjoy the performances of the special could look up other spots where they appeared and think fondly of those moments too.

Endymions Rage

We had Breakfast, now it's time for 2nd breakfast. Then Elevensies, Luncheon, Afternoon Tea, Supper and Dinner.

JBK405

I love the severe contrast between Rose and Donna that you get here. Rose was never submissive or subservient, but she wasn't aggressive or confrontational. Donna however is IN YOUR FACE. They may say the same thing, but where Rose would whisper, Donna will smack you and shout in your ear. It's a perfect one-off episode of "It doesn't need to be the same thing, you can have a different relationship with somebody else". Catherine Tate and David Tennant have such perfect chemistry. There's a dozen other TV shows and guest spots they've worked together on, and each time their dynamic is completely different. We all felt it just as much when a companion or Doctor swaps out. But after time it does get easier. You come to view it like the Doctor does: He knows it's not going to last forever, so he enjoys it while he can.

John the Rambling Scriblerian

This is the first I've seen it (and maybe it's the first that it has been on screen) but I just wanted to say... fantastic studio thus far! I can't wait to see how it evolves and changes as you move towards completion. I'm putting together our library, and slowly it's taking shape, and it will be both an office and a sanctuary and a studio... so it's exciting! As far as the episode goes, the dynamic between Donna and the Doctor has always hit so very well for me. It's so like the friendships I have with most of my friends, female and otherwise... snarky and fun and often a positive sort of manic! This episode is one of my favorites because of that! Also... apparently... Merry Christmas!!! (it's never too soon for that!)

John the Rambling Scriblerian

Oh, and by the way, I felt exactly like that when Sarah Jane left the show, back in Classic Who.....

Jeremy B

Good spot - this episode was very much filmed at the height of summer! Just as 'Fear Her', supposedly set around the time of the summer Olympics, was filmed during the winter when you could see the actors' breath in the cold air. I love this episode. Being a Christmas special and the first episode after 'Doomsday', audiences needed some levity, although I appreciated the fact they acknowledged the impact of Rose's departure. After all, it was mere minutes in the Doctor's timeline since he'd said goodbye to Rose at Bad Wolf Bay. The rescue on the motorway was such a fun chase scene, one of the highlights for sure. “Santa’s a Robot!!” The kids in the back of the family car help make that scene work so well too. Catherine Tate is one of Britain's best loved and most in-demand comic actresses. She had a very popular TV show around this time in which she played a wide selection of characters. You got a feel for Catherine’s range and depth through her performance at the very end of this Christmas special – through her empathy as she implored the Doctor to stop and told him to find someone. Sets up series three perfectly. David and Catherine are great friends and must have had a blast filming this. It was a brilliant Christmas for Who fans that year. Exactly one week later, on New Year's Day, we were treated to the pilot episode of the Sarah Jane Adventures and the final two episodes of Torchwood Season 1. Santa must have been feeling very generous! All the best for setting up the new studio. We look forward to the grand unveiling in a future video!

Darren Withers

It’s OK, because Andre already came out and spoiled it, but I’d point out that even something as innocuous as this comment is spoiler heavy. Angela isn’t stupid, and saying she’s your favourite Doctor Who character when she’s only been in one episode hints that she’ll return. Just try to do better, mate.

David Vandervliet

David and Catherine have such a great friendship. I am sure someone has mentioned their work together on her comedy sketch show, and on the stage. You can find their production of Much Ado About nothing on Amazon Prime.

Darren Withers

Are you saying “It’s OK to spoil companions departures and arrivals for Angela because the BBC ruined them for me”? Personally I had already started anticipating Angela’s surprise when Donna popped back up. Now the only surprise for her will be the when of it.

matt

Not at all. She asked how people handled the emotionality Doctors and companions leaving while the shows were airing. I was addressing that.

James Fleischman

Yeah the xmas specials do seem to be tamed down campy horror.

James Fleischman

Rose was hard to say goodbye to. It's so strange that Billie Piper started off as a teen popstar. Never would have expected her to deliver such heart wrenching performances.

Russell Crockett

Don’t worry about crying, I do it all the time. Maybe it’s because I’m a cancer, but I will cry at the drop of a hat if there’s proper emotion, just music can get me going. And as a Russell, I giggle every time you say “I trust in Russell.” 😎

Darren Withers

Fair enough, I’m still just steamed at André’s spoiler after we jumped on Space Monkey Mafia for the same thing in the Doomsday comments. I thought you were trying to play devil’s advocate for spoilers. 👍

matt

No worries. I probably could have worded it better. I guess I should stop posting before I have coffee 😜

Darren Withers

Andre, just know it’s your fault Angela is now going to avoid looking at comments and interacting with the community regularly. You managed that in just seven words, so nice work dickhead.

D

"You'll love Donna later. You love her now, but you'll love her later, too" - Mitch "Andre" Hedberg

sothcweden

Yes to the amazing DT and CT chemistry, and it all started here! They bounce off of each other just amazingly when they work together, no matter how serious or comic the material.

DeathSwitch

New studio looks cool! Usually people label the Christmas episodes with "Doctor Who season 2x0" if that helps!

Chris Padwick

You could call it the seasonal inter-seasonal if you want to sound bureaucratic about it. The Admirable Mr Tennant and Catherine Tate are very good friends & have acted together a fair bit - Shakespeare, indeed: The Taming of The Shrew. Catherine Tate had her own sketch show (she's best known for her comedy) & he guested as the ghost of Xmas present & a substitute teacher. Really well worth a watch. All on YouTube. This type of episode - a sort of 'Cheer 'em up after a catastrophe' , humour-laden scenario, seemed to have missed you as a target. You even cried because of the credits & I've never seen that before. It makes you all the more decent & humane. You have also single-handedly motivated me to invest in kleenex. Now, I do actually believe that he romantically loves Rose. I think that he has, because of his longevity, had to develop an emotional barrier, a coping mechanism for seeing people he loves pass. His existence has in some ways been defined by the death of others. If he couldn't deal with that, he would go mad.

overdev

yeah I think the specials in general have a bit more budget, they were also filmed on actual film, the rest of the show (the first 4 season) was shot on digital, sadly, cause it's standard definition and cant really be remastered for HD.

Sorcerer Rumburak

This "gibberish" were in my opinion only spoiler, if I set this into context. So it' something like "Are you my momy?" to someone, who has not seen "The empty child" => What's this murdock talking about? 😉 Anyway: These "gibberish" is no gibberish - you can decode the message, if you want to. But be aware: The decoded message IS a spoiler. So: Do not do it, if you do not want to (Sounds like a songtitel for Grease. 😅). At least until the next doctor begins his shift.

Some0neElse

I get how it can be viewed as a spoiler. However simply saying you like a character is a bit of a stretch for me. I mean you can like single episode characters too and admit it - Catherine Tate absolutely stole the episode.

Florian Hoyer

sadly doctor who fans are notorious horrible with spoiler people

William Wood

Another excellent episode, loved your reaction. Donna’s interaction with the Doctor were quite different to Rose’s in this. It was quite good, as it made her distinct from Rose. Some companions you don’t mind so much when they leave, others it hits hard. Sometimes it’s how they leave that’s upsetting. Only time will tell if you find anything as upsetting as Rose’s is for you.

Darren Withers

Relax cobber, I don’t think anyone would consider that a spoiler. Sweet candle was just having a bit of fun with you.

Darren Withers

Yeah, I get what your saying, but loving a character that stole the show for an episode is one thing, and saying she’s “your favourite Doctor Who character” another. The latter, after only one episode, heavily implies future appearances. Very few people would ever list a one off character, in any series, as a “favourite” of the entire series. Regardless, Andre already spoiled it, I was just pointing out how easy it is to spoil something unintentionally… though Andre’s spoiler was downright blatant, and yours subtle.

Some0neElse

i tried not to spoil the thing. Trying to either completely avoid some of the stuff or if i say something i try my posts to be more like a wink to those who know what i`m talking about. Regardless i will try to keep the surprises. Im usually ok being spoiled some minor stuff but i know some people want the complete "blind view" experience and i respect that... or trying to

Carl Wilson

Wow. Angela, definitely get someone to screen the comments and delete spoilers for you, since clearly some people will never learn.

Mellie-B

Yes it is normal to be this sad for losing a companion. Yes you will be catatonic when you lose David 😂 I loved Donna. She was the kick up the butt The Doctor needed following a loss. Also... watch Torchwood 😝

Vinny Johnston

Catherine Tait is a great comedy actress she plays a brilliant gran.

Kevin

Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding. Is it Xander? Never mind, lucky guy whomever.

Leo Carbajal

"The more you know!" edit took me out, great job (and the running gag with the snapping fingers is great) I love your reactions specifically because you get attached (and aren't ashamed of it) to the characters, and I feel the same way. More importantly you give new developments a chance instead of just being dismissive of the new doctor/companions
