I'm not ready for this season to end. At all. Since you've already watched the next episode..... I can already hear the opening to the next episode, and I can picture FLG's expression during it.....

Yeah this one is generally considered to be a stinker but I still think there are some great things about it! I think the Isolus are a fantastic alien concept!

Heat had nothing to do with it, it was about the emotional connection. The love, hope and the entire world focused on it

Speaking of "Doctor liite" episodes, one of my all time favorite Doctor Who episodes happens to be a "Doctor lite" ep. I'm exicted to see what you think about it when we get there.

When the 2012 Olympics DID come to pass, my disappointment was immeasurable that they didn't have David in costume run out to light the torch. As memory serves there was a bit with Daniel Craig's Bond jumping out of a plane instead. Feh. The most impressive thing about this episode is how little special effects there are - Rose gets attacked by the giant scribble, and beyond that it's drawings and a red light in a closet.

Definitely it's possible at times to think the companions are a "blip" but I think the main message in Nu Who is they're not. The Doctor feels it all, and that's why there's so much they don't talk about. Hundreds and thousands of years of heartbreak. How would you deal with it? Otherwise - yeah, I think this episode is fine, but kind of a big muddle as you were saying. (Whereas the last episode was coherent but made a couple of "huh?" choices). Better shows ahead.

Alas, David Tenant did not light the Olympic flame at the 2012 Olympics in London. Instead, a group of 7 teenagers, representing the future of Britain, lit the flame. They did have a short film where James Bond (played by Daniel Craig) was summoned to Buckingham Palace to meet with the Queen. Bond and the Queen then went to an airfield, where they got on an aircraft. After that, in real life, the aircraft in question flew over the Olympic stadium and two paratroopers, dressed as Bond and the Queen, parachuted into the stadium and climbed a viewing platform. Then, the real Queen walked out onto the platform and presided over the opening ceremony.
