i wonder if you noticed what they do with the time vortex yet

Yeah, there are decades of classic Who that gets referenced. Like in the first season, in Angela’s FAVORITE episode (😂) with the Slitheen, a bunch of U.N.I.T. soldiers escort he and Rose and he mentions how he knows the organization well. The 3rd Doctor was exiled on Earth and the Tardis was disabled by the Time Lords for his whole run. During that time he lived and worked at U.N.I.T. headquarters. The Doctor had a job! lol And those were David Tennant’s actual Chucks. When they were putting the costume together, he wore his own shoes.😂

It's a tragic, beautiful irony that the last person that told Cassandra she was beautiful was Cassandra while inhabiting someone obsessed eith her. The elevator disinfectant scene was kept secret from Billie but was told to David, which is why he looks like he's having fun with it and Billie's screaming and frantically trying to figure out how to turn it off. So mean but such a great prank that paid off 🤣

Amy Lillian Bone

I think you asked but yeah, Billie had no idea that the "disinfectant" was coming. That reaction was 100% real.

Only Doctor Who could introduce a camp villainous character who's just a flat sheet of skin and a brain and somehow over 2 episodes give her fake death, a surprise return and a character arc with a moving ending. Absurd stuff, love it.

Rach

Also "I love you", "Bye" to Mickey is brutal

Tennant definitely benefited from an improved budget. The Doctor and Rose were much kinder to Cassandra than most people think she deserves, but that’s pretty typical. The Doctor usually prefers peaceful outcomes, so having the 9th Doctor confess to two genocides was a shocking moment for classic Who fans, even if the Daleks’ didn’t take.

Ben

If you notice at the beginning of the episode, Cassandra mentions she based Chip on her favourite pattern - Chip was that pattern as she saw him at the end, she based Chip on himself!

funnylilgalreacts

That is interesting about the doctor actually having to have a job! Taking the TARDIS out of the equation definitely changes the game

I so look forward to Wednesdays and your Doctor Who reactions. It's quite a while since I last saw the episodes on dvd (remember those) so I'm reliving them with you. I can't wait for your reactions to some of the fantastic stories coming up.

Elvenwitch

I think it was on the Graham Norton show where Billy says her nickname for him is David "Teninch" after a wardrobe fitting.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned yet but the 2-parters for this series are episodes 5/6, 8/9, and 12/13 :]

It wasn’t mentioned in this episode, but the Time War comes up a lot. For reference, Classic Who fans were just as much in the dark as Angela when the series came back. The Last Great Time War happened between the 90’s tv movie (which you can call the end of Classic Who) and the start of new Who. So at this point, we didn’t know any more about it than Angela.

I started with Nine, but 10 is my doctor. I was 4 when this show rebooted back in 2005, but even back then I watched the show with my family and absolutely loved it. I think the reason 10 is my docotr is partly due to nostalgia, but mostly i think it's the fact that he really made me care for the character. Despite being 4/5 all the way to 10, I understood his characters emotions through the acting. I think 10 is one of if not the best casting/ acted the doctor has ever been. Don't worry, the time war isn't forgotten, nor will it be

Alicit

Fun trivia. This is the first new "planet" they traveled to in the revival series. The entire first season was based on Earth (or its orbit). Though it is basically just a future Earth so it's hard to say much difference is made from that factor lol

Craig

Back when the Time Lords were around, the Doctor didn't really have much to do with them (there were a few stories in classic Who set on Gallifrey) because they were a stuffy "Elf" race, in power for 10 billion years and didn't do anything to help or mingle with anyone. The Doctor wanted to see everything and help people, actually be a part of the Universe. Humans look like Time Lords but, at their best, share the Doctor's excitement of exploring and looking out for others. He's fallen in love with the entire species (even though some do things to break his hearts) With the Time Lords gone, there's a whole other dimension to the love

I struggle with this episode. The acting is fun but I hate when stories break their own rules. We learn at the beginning of the episode that several (perhaps many) patients are suffering from diseases for which there are no cures (and won't be for a thousand years). None of the remedies in the hospital will cure petrifold regression (sp?), for example. The cat nurses are just transfering those diseases to other people. Yet, at the end of the episode, the Doctor cures *all* the diseases using only the remedies the hospital already had on hand, which the show has explicitly told us will not cure all those diseases. It's just cheap. And a bit dumb. Oh well. Allons y!

The opening was filmed at Worm's Head at Rhossili in Wales. It's a gorgeous place, but sheep graze ALL over there and I have to think they must've laid down sod just to get a patch of grass to lay on that didn't have any sheep droppings. :D

I have to disagree about the Christmas Invasion. I find the episode VERY dull, and for me, after quitting the show for 2 years because I couldn't deal with a new Doctor, I came back wanting to give this new Doctor a chance and he didn't actually do anything. Just a major disappointment for me in every way. I wish I had skipped ahead to this one.

Alec Campo

Hi late reply here but I think you misunderstood. The point of the human farm was to test new cures, not to siphon diseases from other people into them. The doctor himself calls it the ultimate research laboratory. That’s why they had a cure for everything. So they did not in fact break their own rules lol

ZapWing

Well the best thing about Cassandra's end is that when she first was back in the story, she told Chip and Rose that that night was the last time anyone genuinely said she was beautiful. Turns out, she told herself she was beautiful. The real victim in all of this was the Duke of Manhattan and the New New York parliament. They now have to now decide the rights and liberties of this new species and determining whether they are sentient. I've seen the episode of 'Measure of a Man' from Star Trek. What a legal hellstorm!
