This is not a storyline I like. I had the DVDs of this season but I don’t know if I rewatched the slitheen episodes more than once. Watching it 19 years later you can see them struggling to balance the plot while still working to introduce the characters and the world. Putting aside the issues of the alien design and the fart jokes I think the story would have been stronger later in the season, the stakes are too high for characters we’ve barely gotten to know. There is some establishment of character stuff. The bit with Harriet going from a timid backbencher to a commanding leader is maybe the beginning of a pattern.

I wish I could go back and rewatch the entire series for the first time, I envy you! It gets SO good.
