I was looking forward to your reaction to specific moments: headless Buggy, small Buggy, "It's just an arm.", and Shank's goodbye. If you haven't been warned, you will need that tissue box in later episodes.

A spoiler-free rundown of powers in the world of One Piece. Devil fruits such as the Gum Gum No Mi and the Chop Chop No Mi will always be announced the first fight they are used. The agreement Makino was talking about isn't that the sea removes your fruit ability but makes you physically weak and unable to swim. This world is mostly islands on a vast ocean. This makes the decision to exchange swimming for power a much more important one as you can't just move to the middle of a huge landmass to escape the ocean. In the source material fruit users are referred to as hammers when it comes to swimming ability. Aside from fruits, there are several powers that are not gained from external means but are the culmination of years/decades of training. These powers will not be given a specific title or name all the time. Shank's "hypnosis" would be the first example of one such skill. On names. Even though the show is in English they are still following the Japanese convention for names so Roanoa Zoro is broken into Roanoa (family name) and Zoro (proper name). I think they did that for the fans who would have freaked out hearing "My name is Zoro Roanoa." I am just glad they dropped the Zolo used in the Manga. I am glad you are enjoying the show I won't ask you to do the anime after as that is a huge undertaking, but I will say that other reactors are finding quite the audience by taking on that behemoth.

Nevermind the removal of blood, the lollipop-cigarettes, the hammer gun, or water guns, "Zolo" is quite possibly the worst of the curses unleashed on us by Fox/4Kids and Viz.

this makes me happy

2024-04-05 23:47:43 On a totally separate, tangentially related note: I suspect they won't show too many Sea Kings—or sea beasts, in the LA—(because $$$), but there are tons of varieties. Their designs can be incredibly wild. Think hybrid animals from ATLA, but massive sea monsters. As for Koby: his hair's naturally pink lol. You'll notice quite a few vibrant hair colors—they're mostly all natural, and those were just stylistic choices to stay true to the source material.

That one's design is quite intimidating, but there are actually some cutesier designs. In the opening minutes of the first episode, as the camera pans over the map, there's actually a reference for a Sea King who appears in this arc during the Anime/Manga, but was removed from the Live Action, and he's a good bit more benign than the monster from this episode. Their designs in general can vary wildly. Think hybrid animals from ATLA, but massive sea monsters. As for Koby: his hair's naturally pink lol. My take on Buggy is he is Luffy’s inverse or dark reflection. They both ate the devil fruit, they both had a relationship with Shanks and they both want the one piece. But Buggy’s dream is to be a clown. Luffy’s whole thing is follow your dreams so Buggy is working against himself by pursuing piracy. Piracy, for him, is a means to an end but for Luffy piracy is the goal. This makes Buggy a villain and unable to succeed because his goal is impure. It’s also why Buggy is more sympathetic than most of the other villains who have bad dreams.

It probably would have looked too goofy to have it do this in the LA, but in both the Manga/Anime when Shanks tells the Sea King to "Get Lost", the Sea King is shown to have a look of absolute fear and instead of just turning around and leaving it runs it's ass away

I'm so excited you're watching this series! I personally never had a problem with clowns (except the ones lurking in the dark) so I found Buggy very fun! 😂 I was one of those weird kids who grew up having a huge love for clowns. I still remember a sweet moment when I was a kid and was watching a parade and a clown came up to me and apparently thought I was sad so he gave me his clown nose. 😭 I wasn't sad but it was still a cool moment. I wish I still had it.
