Sacha

It’s funny because trying to avoid alcohol in a public eating/drinking place would be actually quite difficult in a place like Munich. Places for instances like Germany, France, Belgium (which I’m well acquainted with) or any other European country, alcohol being served at a ‘normal” eating establishment is super common and it would actually be difficult to find somewhere that doesn’t serve some kind of alcohol. I think it’s evident that his ex wife meets him at this spot and doesn’t comment something like “why are we meeting in a place that sells alcohol?” It’s just a food and eating spot that naturally would serve alcohol too. This makes Richard’s situation super difficult because drinking culture is completely normalized in Europe. And of course this is set in the 90’s too which I think does factor as well.

Can't disagree with you, in that I couldn't help but feel sorry for Karl's foster parents during Karl's reunion with his father. It's only natural that Karl would want that connection with his biological father, of course, but I can't help that feel that it'd be a shame if Karl's foster parents where to be brushed aside on account of that. They seem to genuinely care for him, and, whilst it is perhaps one of the innate risks of fostering, in that you can form these familial bonds with these children which may all of a sudden simply come to an end, you can only imagine that it'd be quite heart-breaking for them to find themselves surplus to requirement all of a sudden.
