Yukimura again proves his skill in writing characters yet again. Broken record statement at this point but still. I’m sure you’ve been suggested this, but if you ever have free time in your schedule in the likely 2-3 year wait for S3 (if it isnt put in renewal hell like S2 was, as anime is primarily renewed based on Japanese audience reception and the series has done much better in countries in the west, India, etc) I highly recommend the anime Planetes, an earlier work of Yukimura-San. It’s a shorter 26 episode series. Essentially it’s about space debris garbage collectors. But given sensei’s writing capabilities it’s obvious it’s SO MUCH MORE than that.

Planetes is a great series, but I've only read the manga for it. It has the classic Yukimura touch, yet it feels quite different particularly in pacing. It only has 26 chapters that came out over the span of five years so that would certainly contribute to that. Reading it certainly gave me a nice first impression on how Yukimura likes to conclude his series. Plus the setting of space makes for some absolutely stunning manga panels. From what I've seen in interviews, Yukimura isn't particularly proud of it but as we know the man is very humble, lol. I almost dread checking out the anime for it, because they must have added quite a lot of stuff to stretch it to 26 episodes. And maybe it's stuff that works with what is already there, but Planetes is a series that had a much deeper impact on me than I initially expected (mostly due to its length) and I hold it very dear to my heart, so I almost just don't want to watch the anime for it.

Yes, this is almost certainly the Olmar episode. Olmar's line about courage even makes an appearance in the "Memorable lines" section of the VS guide book. Yukimura said that he was quite pleased with the scene and the line. Obviously there's more, but I'm not gonna put the whole quote here. You mentioned Thorfinn also embodying that type of courage in the second half of the episode, but my favorite example of it actually comes just before the scene with Olmar. It's when Snake gets the bucket of water thrown at him and he doesn't lash out and just takes it. He even stops Fox for trying to defend him. That certainly adds to his potential reaction to what Olmar was saying and him deciding to join him afterwards.
