53 and 54 really felt like a two-parter where I understood that we are in the finale of this show; who could have imagined the conversation between envy, hawkeye, ed, mustang and scar half the show ago?? what a beautiful and tragic conversation that brings every single one of their painful histories to fruition. also, no worries about mixing up the pronouns you refer to envy by. i feel like it's odd to get caught up on the issue of gender for a monster whose appearance is so fluid, who shapeshifts and transforms to imitate any human but envies all shades and forms of humanity so intensely--it's fitting that envy does not fit into any one pattern of gender, down to the end

In an anime that has a stellar cast of female characters, I can still say with certainty that Hawkeye is my favorite of the bunch. Possibly my favorite character in the anime period, not only because I love her design and abilities (despite not being an alchemist), but also due to how easy it is to connect with her emotionally. Beyond that, her own connection and relationship to Mustang is just really beautiful, despite it being in many ways tragic and even to some extent unfair. People like to ship them (myself included lol), but even outside of any potential romantic context their bond is just so special. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: one of the all-time best anime duos. Also yet another perfect discussion, like Hawkeye you just don’t miss haha 🎯 the way in which you understand the media you watch is just something else man, you’re still miles ahead of every other reactor out there. These remaining 10 episodes will surely be fun for you as well.

Ah this episode, its so good and its intense from the cold open to the end where we get a scene with the credits and what a scene too. Hohenheim and Father meeting after so long and is such a loaded meeting too The Roy vs. everyone part is so good, you see him at the precipice of just give himself to hatred and anger, he is blinded by it. Ed and Roy are always bikering but is clear they respect and care for each other, Ed does look up to Mustang a lot and seeing him like that must have been so hard, Scar who can relate but still is like if this country is to take a turn you it can't be lead by someone blinded by hate. And RIza...look Roy and Riza are in my top 3 and so I don't end up in a Royai rant, will just say Graffiti Turtle said it best like I agree 100% lol 10 episodes to go, its kinda bittersweet

I already watched the first half so many times that it almost can’t get any emotions from me anymore haha The first time I watched this I cried during Envy’s death. It made me incredibly sad even knowing what he has done. I know the whole episode to it upmost details and yeah, it’s definitely in my top 3 episodes of the show and my fav up til this point. That’s all I will say You should check this out in the dub too, imo this is by far the best translated episode there. I must say I even prefer the dub translation to this original, they are obviously saying the same things but I like the wording in the dub far more. And like you caught it on, in his death he named Ed and this was the first and only time he called him by his name.

Storyboarded by Yoshimitsu Oohashi, and with this his work on the show is over. Left the production with quite a high note. He boarded episodes 25, 27, 35, 40, 45, 49, 54 and the previous opening. Thanks for the bangers king. The show's character designer, Hiroki Kanno, also made his debut on the series as one of the two supervisors here; which further proves that this was clearly of high priority. He'll return for the final spurt. Kameda's bit was hard to miss. This show was his breakthrough as an animator, and it's admirable how he went from an unknown rookie to literally the show's number one guy during its run: https://i.imgur.com/VHtsgsD.mp4 Great performance by Minami Takayama for Envy as well. In Japan she's often just brushed off as "Conan's voice actress," because she's been voicing the main character in Detective Conan in for almost thirty years. After this episode it's crazy to think she also voices Kiki in my favorite Ghibli film: Kiki's Delivery Service! So talented.

I also love how Scar isn't a hypocrite. He can warn and lecture Mustang but he won't stop him, after what he has done.
