Been waiting for this one man, so excited. I thought this episode was absolutely phenomenal. Can't wait for next one - I think it's got the setup to potentially be the best episode in the entire series

Sacha

Kobayashi is storyboarding again for episode 9 soo get hype everyone!! Can’t watch this just yet as I’m about to fall asleep sadly but let me tell that you that I’m very excited to hear what you thought of this fantastic episode. To quote your episode 4 reaction “CINEMA. CINEMA.”

Javier

Incredible episode.

Javier

I don't wanna go too off-topic, but I know hundreds are wondering the same, will you upload AOT today? Just so I know if I should sleep early or not lmao

FILMBuFF

Lol oh that would be impossible. I haven’t even watched it yet. I don’t have a set day for it at the moment.

Chelle

idk about that, there’s some really amazing stuff still to come but next episode will certainly be a good one

Absolutely beautiful episode, the OST was the best it's ever been. It's subtle for the most part and not at all in your face. The way it helps the transition from the Sverkel scene to the talk they have in the woods is perfection. As for the content, I'm actually really happy that they tied the dream from 6.5 into this. Was unexpected, but very cool. I got chills when Prologue Thorfinn walked past current Thorfinn. Again the contrast in designs really helps sell this moment. My favorite thing in this is how the entire episode builds up to Einar getting into a fight with the retainers literally right until the punch lands. And then, it's Thorfinn. The one who was the voice of reason in this entire episode and was able to restrain Einar from lashing out earlier. He just couldn't restrain himself and his hate or anger flashed up once more. And even though he regrets it pretty much immediately, he falls back down that cliff with the old lady and Thors making another appearance right in front of his eyes. It's satisfying yet at the same time sad. Plus it's the perfect way to end the episode after we opened up at the cliff in the beginning.

May I ask where you find the credits for the episodes? The intro always has the same names. :/

Storyboard – Yoshiaki Kawajiri Direction – Tadahito Matsubayashi https://i.imgur.com/5PytWZL.png Matsubayashi again! This time directing someone else’s board, someone being Yoshiaki Kawajiri: a 72-year-old veteran, the co-founder of Madhouse and an acclaimed director and writer in his own right behind classics like Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Wicked City and many others. There are a bunch of old fellas in the industry who seemingly don’t believe in retirement, Kawajiri being one of them. This guy’s been making anime for more than five decades by now and the experience shows in today’s episode. I’m sure that getting to execute and study his board was also a valuable experience for everyone. Loved how the colors went muted and bleak in the latter half. Takeda is god. The retainer and Einar’s hands with the wheat are also nice. Yukimura’s belief of hands showing the amount of work people put in is definitely the focus there. Incredible use of score. JAniCA (Japanese Animation Creators Association) has been reporting stuff about the industry for years by now, through which it’s been known that out of all the staff roles the average age of storyboarders is the highest. Kawajiri is a tad older than the average though. Glad to see him still kicking, even if his output is long past its peaks (as hard as that might be to believe). Relevant report for who cares: https://i.imgur.com/y8WrPjy.jpg Yuuto Uemura for Thorfinn. Shunsuke Takeuchi for Einar. すっげぇパンチ! 林 on Shingeki. 小林 and 松林 on Vinland. Forest boys 林 林 林 edit: Kobayashi and Matsui(?) next week..? website's information is unreliable.

In the end credits. And on Fridays the upcoming episode's main staff always gets put on the website: https://vinlandsaga.jp/story/

Really confused about next week's ep director, is it Kento Matsui or Tadahito Matsubayashi? or are they the same person?

Anonymous

No, they're not the same person. I didn't even notice; the website has the kanji for Matsui, and the romanization for Matsubayashi. I guess the only way to know which one is correct is to wait for the actual episode. Though, I'd bet money that the romanization is the one that's incorrect and it's actually going to be Kobayashi & Matsui next week. 松林 唯人 matsubayashi tadahito 松井 健人 matsui kento

I really thing it's gonna be a special one. Super high expectations

I was right. It was a whole different tier of special. Easily top 3 episodes of the entire series
