For me it has been 13 years since I last watched Eva. So I’m genuinely super excited to go through this with you and enjoy it in a completely different way. I was around 17 when I last watched this and the way I consume media is totally different now (naturally). You talk about inspiration and it’s no exaggeration to say that “Is that an Eva reference?” is soo common in anime/manga spaces that it’s practically a meme itself. Only really beaten out by “Is that a Jojo reference?” I can think of many times that I’ve been watching something and I would think “They’re going full Eva with this.” Speaking of VA’s I’ve just realised that you are very familiar with one and that going to be a cool moment when you recognise them. To be honest there are a lot of veteran VAs still working even now from this time period. Shinji’s VA just did work on the JJK 0 movie as the lead recently for example. But that’s the beauty of voice work. It does not matter your age or gender you can play pretty much anything as long as you have the talent to do so. This is such an exciting time on your channel and to be a Patreon of yours. Watching Yukimura’s masterpiece Vinland, a new Doctor to enjoy, FMAB’s finale is starting to ramp up, arcane bringing in such great visual storytelling, and of course AOT just round the corner. It’s a good time indeed!

Maybe it’s just me but I kinda liked when you used to do introductions to your videos, especially at the beginning of a new show. It gave a good idea of where your head was at before going in instead of it just starting. I also think you could cut down the beginning with all the screenshots and make it a bit shorter too. All that aside, I’ve definitely been interested in this anime for some time and I think you’re the perfect reactor when it comes to being introduced to new shows lol. You’ve sure got a full schedule, love to see it 💜

Katsuragi Misato; Woof. I've gotta get that off my chest right off the bat. The whole aesthetic is right up my alley.

More seriously, really looking forward to getting your thoughts on this one mate. Those first times seeing NERV HQ and all the works will never not be cool to me, both from a directing standpoint and just from the fact that it always manages to tap into sense of boyish joy, like the first time seeing a train or a tractor as a child.

I agree with missing the intros. It feels a bit jarring getting immediately into the reaction.

A lot to discuss here obviously. I want to wait a bit before rewatching the series, so I might give it a few weeks but the discussions is helping to build that anticipation. One thing I will say is I got a glimpse of the end of it and saw that this is indeed the new version which means it's missing the "Fly me to the moon" ED. My first watchthrough was with this new version too, so I don't have much of an opinion but I'm wondering what others' are? I think there will also be some different translations in the subs maybe from what is considered the definitive version, but I think those criticisms were overblown IMO

For your questions, a lot of them, even very small things have answers, so it's best to let you develop those yourself. It's an iceberg indeed

Yaorin

the second gundam series and then evangelion are the 2 big revolutions in mecha anime, they pretty much created and recreated the genre

Kara the gamer girl from Mars

This is really exciting, experiencing an all time classic not only in anime but in media in general right along side you for the first time is just perfect. Also learning that you started One Piece with the cursed 4kids dub was relatable as I’ve grown up with the Arabic dub which is not as bad as 4kids but still isn’t great lol

HawaiinHercules

I think he should watch the intro, its essential to the experience and really doesnt show much about where this story goes.

FILMBuFF

I can definitely bring the intros back at some point👌🏼but there will be an influx of “your intro is way too long” comments, because the channel intro/opening reel would be staying put. Some things are for me as well, it’s just how I like to present my content, and of course happy that some people do enjoy the opening segment.

DrakDoodles

It shows characters he hasn't seen though. I'd rather he see them for the first time when they're introduced in the actual show. You wouldn't think it's a spoiler but if he's seen a character in the opening he'll know it's an essential character. It's not a big deal but I always appreciate him skipping the openings until later.

I think there’s a ton of Shingeki inspo in this series. This was pretty rad to watch you get so stoked for a classic. I completely understand getting hyped about old school anime design, it’s very detailed and distinct!

Soul Nibbler

I actually thought it's kind of patronizing for people who originally saw everything, intro and ending included, to tell new people to skip it. But then I started my copy of the episode, and thought "with his galaxy brain the epilepsy inducing nanosecond flashes of images will tell him the entire story" haha ^^

Wesley Owens

No wonder he always uses subs his first dub experience was the One Piece Dub the most tragic dub in human history lol
