Yeah, with the fourth ending they started to make these transitions at the end and I love it when animes do that. That last scene is really a heavy scene and I love what Ed realizes there at the end. There is always more to learn.

Storyboarded by Tadasu Jumonji, a character played by Mikio Narita in the 1965 Japanese film, “Zatoichi and the Chess Expert” directed by Kenji Misumi. People get credited under pen-names when they want to remove themselves from the production due to the end result being unsatisfactory, or more commonly when they’re contractually obliged to work elsewhere at the time. I’d put my money on the latter as it’s a great episode - the storyboard itself being one of the highlights. Would like to know who this was. I haven’t seen any of the Zatoichi films, but I’ve seen Misumi’s Lone Wolf and Cub films that are adapted from the manga series by the same name. Those I would recommend to any fan of old Japanese films 👍

I absolutely love this song at the end. And the transitions make it even better. 😍 Also: Ed is a badass ❤️

This is maybe my 5th or 6th time watching this series and this is one of my absolute favourite episodes (despite it not being such a 'core' episode), the sequence with Ed using himself as a philosopher's stone will forever be such an incredible moment for me, the intensity of it all was just so satisfying and beautiful.

I'm not sure how true this is but I have heard that Ed pulling out the beam was inspired by Arakawa's own experience with child birth
