Wow man, that's gotta be the best episode yet I think. Close between a few, at the very least

About the dub/ sub conversation. I don't have the nostalgia about it that others might have, I like them both. I feel like the dub does a really good job of capturing the characters, even more so then the Sub does in some cases. Like Wrath's voice actor does a damn good job in pretty much any scene he's in.

I really like Hawkeye’s dub voice, it just seems to fit her character more. I also kinda prefer the dialogue in the dub translation, it feels a bit more natural. But Kimbley’s voice is one of the ones I think the sub nails much better. In the dub he sounds a bit too cartoony imo

You mentioned in the discussion how you were disappointed that this episode didn’t cover all you were hoping to see about the war. I haven’t read the manga but I have heard that it does go into much, much more detail about it. It’s a shame the anime cut out so much, but time constraints and all that ig Oh good, someone else brought it up lol

One of the very few gripes I have with FMAB is that they cut a TON of content from the Ishbal flashback. Although some of it was cut and moved to ep 22 for Scar's backstory, an entire volume was dedicated to this flashback and could have been spread out over at least 2 episodes. I understand why they cut so many scenes that didn't directly have to do with the main focus of the story, but there were a lot of scenes and character interactions that fleshed the characters out more. For example, there are more scenes and dialogue with Roy, Riza, Hughes, Kimblee, even the Drs. Rockbell. Dr. Knox even makes an appearance and interacts with Dr. Marcoh. It's mentioned that a single Ishbalan warrior monk is equal to 10 Amestrian soldiers, which is part of why the war was dragging so long before Order 366. There's even a scene where Roy hunts down the "last" remaining Ishbalan and asks him for his last words. The man says "I will never forgive you" before Roy incinerates him. I imagine scenes like hese were cut because they portray our "heroes" in a less than stellar light, but I think they're super necessary for understanding the atrocities that occurred. One of the most interesting cut scenes is that after putting up the wall, Armstrong actually finds 2 Ishbalan women who are hiding. He punches a hole in the wall and tells them to flee, but as they do, Kimblee arrives and kills them before consoling Armstrong and telling him that if it had been anyone else who'd seen him do that, he'd be court martialed. Also, Basque Gran's squad (the Iron Blood Alchemist) as well as Hughes were the ones to capture the High Priest. However, his commanding officer had received orders to kill all Ishbalans and didn't care about the morality of his actions. Basque actually shoots the general and everyone else in the squad is just like "oh wow, a stray bullet got him, that sucks". Afterwords is when the scene with Bradley occurs. Not a super necessary inclusion, but it would've added a few layers to a minor character that has so far come acorss as violent and bloodthirsty. I highly encourage you (or anyone who hasn't read the manga) to check chapters 58, 59, 60, 61 and 62 for the cut content

I completely agree with your sub/dub point. Though, I also think that all media is better consumed in its original language – be it anime or not. For anime, I do know that the series director, chief director, episode director, sound director, as well as the original author are often all present for the voice acting sessions to direct and guide the voice actors. Something as invaluable as this is what I personally care about much more than what the “characters sound like.” All of this is thrown in the bin as soon as you dub the work into another language. At the end of the day I’m still a strong advocate for the “consume the thing in whichever way you personally prefer.” Here’s a relevant AoT S3 behind the scenes clip. https://i.imgur.com/Dn1b7yL.png https://streamable.com/z20xrz

Man that’s really disappointing I literally just skimmed through the chapters you mentioned and there are some amazing stuff that gave me better characterisation for characters that I thought I already knew everything there is to know about them. At least this gives even more of an insensitive to get into the manga at some point

Yeah, I really like this anime adaptation, but this is the reason why I prefer the manga. There is overall various scenes that are cut from the manga, but the Ishbal flashback had so much cut content is a shame.
