For me FMAB is just a perfect example of ‘battle’ shonen anime. It’s large cast never feels overwhelming and it never feels like characters are wasted. The minor/side characters come into the story when they are relevant and their screen time is always enjoyable and engaging. It’s able to in my opinion perfectly balance its darker themes such as military corruption and it never falls into ‘edgyness’, while also not being afraid to be lightheaded and comical when it can be. It also doesn’t fall into unnecessary fanservice. And all the characters have chances to shine, wherever they be a woman or man, child or adult, human or ‘non-human.’ Raven’s introduction, leading to Mustang walking into the ‘belly of the beast’ of the inner circle of the military, AND THEN the casualness of Bradley challenging Mustang is just such a cool sequence. I remember being soo shook the first time I watched it and it still gets me every time honestly. It’s such a good multilayered plot twist that makes a ton of sense and does not come out of nowhere. It also make the challenge to our protagonists/main characters soo much worse. They have to be soo careful now moving forward. It also really helps reinforce how young Mustang is still. He’s been shown so far as competent in his schemes but his confidence and naïveté has really backfired now. ‘A fool’ indeed. I keep forgetting how funny Gluttony is sometimes😄Yes, he is down right terrifying but as soon as he gets scolded by Envy he immediately goes back to being such a child. Arakawa’s character designs are just absolutely perfect all round. A character like Gluttony being able to turn from terrifying to hilarious on a dime *chefs kiss* I have the biggest grin on my face during your discussion of Bradley and Pride. The homunculus ‘family’ is soo fascinating and it only gets better on rewatch too. Your reactions and discussion make me soo giddy for future events. I’m genuinely soo happy that you are enjoying this show. The long two decade hype (two decades for the manga and one for fmab anime) could definitely be an issue for any other story *cough* death note *cough* But Arakawa really struck gold and made something pretty timeless here. Can’t wait for next time!
