I love this episode, it gets me every time I watch it Amy and Rory are some of my favorite companions. Yes this episode has plot holes but I just laugh at them and enjoy the episode anyway as he could just go to that time but in a different city and take a cab or a NewYork a few years later; this episode I think is good enough to over looks those same goes for the Statue of liberty its silly but I love it and I think its very doctor who-y so I let it slide

Cried again watching your reaction to this. I totally agree that this is a sort of happy ending for them that they get to spend their time together. It was really sad to say farewell to the first companions that I saw (I watched Matt Smith before going back to watch everything else in NuWho) but I thought they got sent off well being together.

In my headcanon Amy and Rory also find little Mels when she regenerated in Manhattan and help her on her way to find themselves

I always cry on the final graveyard scene. It never gets easier.

On plot holes: The Doctor could also just time travel to where they got sent back, but slightly outside of New York, then use another means of method to meet Amy and Rory, lol

I also really wanted a companion exit that didn't end in tragedy forcing them apart from the Doctor. Your idea of the Doctor having a family with Amy and Rory (and River) that he wasn't primarily travelling with anymore but could also go to would have been great, but this show tends to have an aversion to loose ends. Martha so far is the only companion who chooses to leave naturally

I actually like the Angels this episode. Much more effective than in S5, in my opinion. Of course worse than Blink, but I love the atmosphere and River being in there makes it overall a good tie-in to one of Amy's first adventures with the Doctor

Yes, in the end Amy chose Rory. I also somewhat feel that he is a bit of an afterthought in the farewell scene, but I feel like it's made up by the whole episode being with him being in peril, so him suddenly disappearing packs a punch with enough buildup and then you have the more drawn-out farewell with Amy. I feel like the whole 'Amy's choice' aspect of her character is a little watered down by the fact that she already made her choice in the titular S5 episode, and then many other times after that like in S6. But if you're going to do a decisive ending for her character then her choosing to leave as a companion to be with Rory makes sense. Overall a good reaction and discussion, and I can't wait for the next era. Clara might be my favorite companion and I love the next christmas special you're about to watch

Good stuff, thanks for the great reaction (as usual).
