Heart-breaking episode. Rest well, Bjorn.

I like the more hot takes with comparing the best characters in anime with death note, good that you can get your own opinions out even if they might be more controversial I really like light yagami, and at the time death note came out, it was one of the best MC if you only watched shonens back then, because it was much more developed than the big three MCs back then. (Naruto,One piece, Bleach) now going back to vinland saga. you are on the spot about thorfinn development, it is beyond season 1 where the story focuses on him, we will have to wait for season 2 for it. but thorfinn is my favorite MC of all time, its totally worth it, Vinland saga its a slow burn, and the more important a part of the overall story is, the slower the development is to get them all the time they need. this is specially true with thorfinn. Finally, RIP to bjorn, the scene with askeladd its left ambiguous purposely I think, to let you get your own conclusions about askeladd being sincere or not with bjorn, truly one of the best moments of season 1.

Love the political stuff in this show, it's just very fun to see it unfold. And that final scene is certainly a standout moment from S1. And I do believe that Askeladd was genuine about Bjorn being his friend. The way they portray Askeladd at the end there with the sun illuminating him from the back makes him seem enlightened and wise to me. His hair isn't as blonde in the shot and kinda goes into a gray tone. You have the one shot of him back when they killed Thors earlier in the episode and it really reminds you how much older he is now. His aura just oozes confidence and wisdom to me.

Bjorn's fate always gets me, and it feels very poignant that Askeladd's loyal dog, despite being from a group he downright vilifies, is also the only person that understood him enough to be considered a friend. This is in spite of the fact that Bjorn felt he never truly understood his commander. The whole scenario just overflows with bittersweetness (with strong notes of melancholy lmao) and it is easily a top 5 moment for me in the series thus far.

EZ

The only show that can make me care about a murderous viking

The character designer Abiru Takahiko's work hasn't really been as noticeable on screen due to being busy as the sole overseeing animation supervisor (総作画監督) of the production. But man does his work really stand out when he does have time to show up, if even for a little bit, as a regular animation supervisor (作画監督). Should be him in charge of the indoor scene with Askeladd, Canute etc. https://i.imgur.com/56SfAov.png

Damn Canute looks so different and incredible in the top left picture.
